Which one would be better for 1440p?
Is AMD's driver support bad?
Overall, what would be the best GPU to get and have the least problems?
(I know the Fury X hasn't been released yet, but its specs and some benchmarks have)

Depends on games and resolution your playing at. 1080p or 1440 both are overkill. At 4k I would lean toward the 980ti. The hbm on the fury x is much faster but some games at 4k are already pushing the 6gb on the ti to its limit. Only having 4 on the fury x even being faster and more efficient still seems to be hitting a wall at 4k from what I've seen so far

Well I've read many reviews on the Fury X, and they were all essentially saying the same thing, about it not outperforming the 980Ti:
"But from what we’ve seen, the Fury X doesn’t significantly outperform the 980 Ti, and Nvidia’s card offers 2GB more VRAM and better drivers for the same price" (PC Gamer).

Well, looks like I'm sticking to the 980Ti.

Also, about the talk about drivers earlier, PC Gamer said this: "Nvidia’s more frequent driver updates and better software experience make their cards more compelling."

Considering nVidia's shady business practices, I can't recommend nVidia to anyone when AMD has a card that has exactly the same price and exactly the same performance. False advertising and drivers making performance on older cards worse are two things that happened this year already.
nVidia might have more frequent updates, but nVidia is also known for leaving their users in the dust after ~2 years. If you plan to have your card a long time (I strive to have it 5 years), AMD is by far the better choice.

As they are required to make the hardware work I would argue that they are indeed a selling point, when I got my 7790 a couple of years ago I was unable to use it for nine months because every driver up to the 14.2's were unstable.

I almost thought to ask the same question.......There is no answer i mean there isnt....
Amd COULD come out with some amazing update that causes it to smoke the 980ti in every way....
Nvidia could come out with a way better card for 100 bucks less......

Buy what you want both cards are good decent amazing cards....But its up to you.......The little bit we know so far 4gb is plenty because they are using HBM not DDR5.....Does this mean it is the case forever or 5 years down the road no one knows.....
I pre-ordered a fury X threw amazon...Why because i want to try somthing new....Is it a mistake ill find out in 6 months to a year.....

Order what YOU want.....no matter how much you read and what you read there is always both sides of the story one or the other may or may not be correct.....

That's true, I'll probably just get the 980Ti Hybrid .

honestly i don't know about that. when AMD drop 4k series from main driver nvidia still support their 200 series (and down to 6k series) in their main drivers. back then many AMD users complaining especially those that own high end 4k series and CF setup. CF user have it worse since they no longer receiving CF profile for 4k series after AMD drop them from main drivers. and right now AMD will not going to support 5k and 6k series for DX12. what really lack for those two series when nvidia able to give DX12 support to all their DX11 card? and even if you look at GCN not all of their card able to support new tech from AMD themselves. why FreeSync limited only to GCN 1.1 (and above)? despite early on they said their gpu have the necessary tech to make it happen in three generations already (hinting that even 5k and 6k might also possible to use FreeSync)

This is so true! You really cant walk away a total winner no matter what!
If you buy the fury there will be things that make you wish you had bought the 980ti and vise versa.
it is the nature of the beast. happens to me all the time and not just with PC gear.

Yeah I'm upgrading my pc at the moment and every time I do is always a headache. I personally went with the 980ti sc sli but I have a nice Asus 4k 1 ms monitor and when dx 12 comes and if it delivers as promised seems like would edge out two fury x but time will tell. Honestly at 1080p or 1440 I would've went with the fury. I've been running amd 6970 and been happy with it but was using geforce card before that and I've had hiccups with every system at times but overall been happy with either. There's always something promises to be better and just around the corner. I've been waiting on the fury to build my new personal rig and even then nividia won me over for what I'm looking at doing. Ti card's seem to hold decent value if I sell them off later and go back to red team

If you are getting this card for 1080p or 1440p, the 980 ti IS BETTER.

Look at the benchmarks. At 1080 and 1440p, the fury x is edged out by the 980 ti. Only in 4k is where the fury x edges the 980 ti.

Yeah, you're right. Plus, it has better overclocking potential and more vram.

I went with GTX 980TI. but I have always prefered Nvidia. Fury X looks great and with the new high speed memory it is going to do well, In a few generations from now. Both post impressively at 4k for single GPU cards.
Fury X wont have overheating issues but then the 980ti doesnt run amazingly hot and cant be heard even under full load.
each to their own preference to which they go for. But considering the 980ti is knocking on the door of TITAN's it will be as to which company brings the best drivers.

Always remember get about 10 reviews out of way before choices. A lot of reviews post different findings one says other is better so on and so forth.

Because AMD cards are driver-limited under DX11, but won't be under DX12.
