Zak,

Writing, "petaflops per second", is redundant. 'petaflops' already includes 'per second', hence
the 'ps' at the end, or does Titan exhibit the world's first excelarative performance? ;)

Other than that, thanks for the update! Surprised it was only 17.59 though, I was expecting
it to be higher.

Ian.

I'm pretty sure that "excelerative" isn't a word and even if it was, it'd probably be spelled more like accelarative.

Regardless, good catch on that.

[citation][nom]ohim[/nom]what , you have a supercomputer in your bedroom and want that or what ?[/citation]

Yes, imagine the amount of porn you could watch with a super computer....

why do i get negatives for asking the AMD CPU question ? i wasn`t making any fun about it ... just being used to see Intel in there not AMD ...

They went with AMD because at the time when "Jaguar" was in development, back in the good old K8 days, AMD had the superior architecture. So as the system evolves the choice to go with Opteron's simply stems from that time.

"If you're curious about why Titan uses Opterons, the explanation is actually pretty simple. Titan is a large installation of Cray XK7 cabinets, so CPU support is actually defined by Cray. Back in 2005 when Jaguar made its debut, AMD's Opterons were superior to the Intel Xeon alternative. The evolution of Cray's XT/XK lines simply stemmed from that point, with Opteron being the supported CPU of choice."

[citation][nom]darkavenger123[/nom]Again. Can it play Crysis??[/citation]

On multiple screens and a lot of micro stuttering with that many GPUs in SLI :D

On a side note, I wonder why AMD has never thought of using this line as part of their marketing :

"Did you know that most of the Top 20 most powerful Computers are powered by Intel, but the most powerful is powered by AMD ? "

:/

They're all in separate nodes, there's no SLI-like technology involved. It's more comparable to a huge number of networked individual computers than it is to a single computer with many CPUs and GPUs.

Also, as a general rule, having more GPUs reduces stutter once you go past two. If this really was more like a single machine with many GPUs, stutter would probably be completely non-existent.

Sorry to ruin it for you ;)
