I like the fact that they added artificial intelligence to guess the pixels that they don't have time to render. I am guessing the ratio of rendered vs. guesswork pixels differs based on complexity, resolution, and frames per second, but no matter what your targeted output is, the card will be more than happy to produce it.

The bigger crime is the midrange card @ $499. The x70 has always been closer to 400, or less. Ideally 350. This means I'll be running my 1070 much much longer than I planned.

I'm waiting on whatever card that can play the majority of upcoming games at 4K Ultra settings at 60 fps. My Asus Strix OC 1070 can play most but struggles on a few things when MSAA is turned to the highest settings. From this chart the 2080 might be my sweet spot for future proofing for upcoming titles for the next 2 to 3 years. Consoles gotta catch up first.

This will be a luxury cosmetic feature, only because Nvidia will probably lock it behind Geforce cards. Developers won't use any of this for important features, because then they are also locked to one manufacturer, reducing their player base.

I see it as potentially like PhysX: amazing tech, a lot of potential, but being limited to one hardware relegates it to cosmetic status. We could have physics-based games years ago if Radeons could run PhysX code. I see the same happening to this.

This release raises several questions in my mind.

1. What is the relative performance with say, 1080 vs. 2080 with ray tracing turned off? Because the old games they that many of us still play won't benefit from ray tracing to any usable extent that I can see right now. I'll be happy to be wrong, but we'll see.

2. How much difference does gddr6 make over gddr5 and 5x?

3. How does ray tracing on the new games affect the performance of previous generation cards? Obviously it would have to be turned off, but is there a performance hit?

4. How close can a GTX2060 get to a GTX1080Ti with ray tracing turned off? Because, if a 2060 matches a 1080Ti on the old games @$349 or less, NVidia is going to sell a bunch of them. A 2050 matching a 1080 at a reasonable price would upset the entire 1440p market.

I'm very interested in watching this all play out in the reviews. I will also be interested in seeing an answer to Filipe_6's question regarding CPU's.

I don't think there are many, outside of some of the more hardcore members on this hardware forum that plan on upgrading their GPU every generation. If you're still happy with your 1080 that's great. There is no need to go out and buy a 2080. I'm still happy with my 1070 that I got a week after launch back in 2016 and I don't plan to upgrade this generation either, especially not with the price increase over the previous generation.

This generation might not be for us but there are still plenty of people rocking a 970, 980, 980 Ti or older card who might be ready to jump now. They really don't need us to upgrade every generation to do well. I'll just plan on moving to a 3070 or an AMD equivalent in 2019 or 2020 when they come out.

Pre-Orders are up on NewEgg. And no these card don't have HDMI 2.1...they have HDMI 2.0b. 3 Display Ports 1.4, 1 HDMI, and 1 USB-Type C seems to be the standard. These cards need to have 2 HDMI 2.0 ports IMO to drive multiple TVs/Monitors. That's a downgrade IMO for HTPC users

You don't HAVE to spend $1200. These cards are a superb value. The 2080TI is for enthusiasts that buy Titans. This pricing certainly will not bite them in the ass. $499 base price for the 2070 is a STEAL as it is more powerful than a freaking TITAN XP. What are you smoking? Lol.

The 2070 makes the 1080TI not even worth spending $399 on...I would even go as far to say that I wouldn't buy a 1080TI for $299 over the $499 2070 if these performance graphs are true.

Why exactly might I ask? If $499 is just too steep for you, why not just wait for the 2060 which will probably be around $299?

I suspect I may be someone willing and able to spend allot more on a glorified frame-buffer then most (>$500), and to do so more often (about every 2 or 3 years), but these prices will test my enthusiasm.

Why not just use the 3 display ports? I haven't used HDMI in years. What benefits are there to using HDMI over Display Port?

Why might I ask? At $499, you are getting a card that supposedly outperforms a Titan XP. That's an INSANE value.

What TV do you own that has Display Ports???? Some guys use 32 and 40 inch 4k HDR TVs as monitors for gaming as well.

Ohhh I see, I had no idea man. I use 3 1440p 32 inch monitors with 100% RGB. Anything bigger and I wouldn't even be able to see what's going on xD

Why do people use TVs for PC gaming...? That sounds horrible lol.

It's unlikely that it would offer that level of performance. They described the RTX 2070 as "outperforming" a Titan Xp, which itself is only slightly faster than a 1080 Ti in games. So, expect the $500-$600 RTX 2070 to fill the role of a 1080 Ti with some fancy raytraced lighting effects in certain games. The GTX 2060 probably won't perform much better than a 1070 Ti, and the "GTX" branding leads me to believe it will probably lack the new raytracing features entirely. I doubt the 2050 will be much faster than a 1060, and given the way they are pricing these cards, it could be $200.

No, 2.0b....even says so on the NVIDIA web site specs....which is...DISAPPOINTING.

It has DisplayPort 1.4 which will drive 4K@>60Hz though....you just won't be able to pass the sound through your AV receiver.

My hype just died a little. Are you telling me I can't do anything over 4k at 60fps...? WTF is the point of a 2080TI, or even a 2080 for gaming at this time then...?

Titan Xp was always terrible value though. Better comparison would be to say you (purportedly) get the performance of a 1080 Ti for $500 rather than $700. So you get ~40% better perf/$, which is certainly good but I wouldn't call it "insane", given that the 1080 Ti will have come out 1.5 years ago by the time the 2070 is available. Not really out of line with prior releases of new generations of cards. The 1070 actually offered a greater increase in perf/$ (compared to the 980 Ti) in a shorter time frame.

I am probably overestimating the 2070, but I am going to stick with my gut and say that the 2070 will outperform the 1080TI enough to make the 1080TI not even appealing at $399. This is just my prediction though.

YOU CAN, you just have to use the DisplayPort on the card instead of the HDMI.

But yeah, total bummer if you were hoping to pass the audio.

Oh gotcha gotcha. Why would I want to pass the audio? I don't think I've ever even considered plugging my speakers into anything BUT my tower/sound card.

we have to wait and see if that level of performance is in non-ray traced games or ray traced games before any assertions can be made. Hoping for > 1080Ti peformance in non-ray traced games in the $400-$500 price range cant hurt though
