Neutrality is a beautiful thing, but I'm sure everyone is much more sympathetic to a brand over the other, for both rational and completly irrelevant reasons.

Have owned 2 ATI cards in my life and entirely satisfied with both of them. No fanboy, I like facts better than opinions, but still quite sympathetic to ATI, from my own experience.

Based on my purchases I lean more towards ATI. But each time I decide to buy I weight the benefits between ATI and nVidia and what I need.

The first GPU I ever bought is the nVidia TNT2 which came with my PC; Pentium 166 MMX.

When I upgraded to a Pentium II 450 I bought the Radeon 7500 for price performance ratio.

Upgraded to Athlon XP-M 2800+ and bought GeForce 4200Ti.

The 4200Ti died in 6 months, bought the Radeon 9000Pro, 'cause I was low on cash.

Upgraded the 9000Pro to the 9800Pro because it was the best performing GPU when it came out.

Bought the AIW Radeon 9600 XT when I built my HTPC because all nVidia GeForce 6xxx series card paled in comparison when it came to single light gaming card with video capture capabilities.

Built a new PC around the C2D E6600. I wanted to buy the 7900GT because of it's performance and the fact that it uses less than 50% power than the Radeon X1900XT uses. Ultimately, I bought the X1900XT because I wanted HDR + AA while playing Oblivion. Couldn't wait for the 8800GTS to come out.

I expect to replace my current HTPC with a new one at the end of this year. I will most likely buy an nVidia card for it because their cards traditionally uses less power than ATI GPUs. I'll pair it up with a Haupaugge 250 capture card. Gaming will be done on my primary rig so the GPU will be either an entry level or mainstream GPU.

I think this thread might become a flamewar, but if people just vote and optionally put their opinion without ranting or calling names,it would turned out fine :) .Just hope/pray this forum won't become place for fanboys make wars 🙁 ...this forum is for enthusiast and the likes, and people looking for help.If people start flamewar over simple poll asking for simple opinion, that just shows their immaturity  no matter how old they are,but that's just my IMHO

I lean towards nvidia. reason: Linux support.

however, if I were to buy a GPU for a gaming PC, and I had a specific amount of money, I would get the best performer for the price, regardless of ATI/nvidia.

Partially sympathetic towards nvidia although my last two cards a X700Pro and a X1800XT 512mb have been ATi's obviously.

i think its because one of my first high end gpu's was the Nvidia Geforce 3 with 64mb of 'OMG' DDR ram...

Can honestly say no bias one way or the other.

Video cards? - I just don't care.

Not a gamer.

Kinda used to like ATI, but the "All in Wonder" cards seem to have all gone away, so I just get a second card to have a TV tuner in the PC.

If it can play SimCity, run Vista premium, and drive two DVIs at 1920 X 1200... other than that... I just don't care.

Our business computers have both products.

Because N is on my personal computer, and I am most familiar to N's settings and usage, I prefer N.

If my personal computer was loaded with A, I might prefer A.

For basic office computers I see no benefit or disadvantage of one over the other. So on a scale of 1-100, I would rate my N bias score as a 55. Not much of a bias, but it is still a bias.

Through the years, I've bought plenty of both cards, so I don't think of myself either pro ATI or pro Nvidia. Now, if you had asked about the old VooDoo card, that would have been something else.

oh i admit im ATI Fanboy

after that geforce 5xxxx series (hairdryers) and the fact that Nvida realse a driver once in a blue moon and you have to hunt down beta drivers for crap to work (8800's and Vista anyone?), i use ATI

now my laptop has a 7600Go in it and its a good card but PC is ATI

and that R600 is gonna be sexy :3

at anyrate 50 bucks says this turns into a flame war

>_> <_< quickly to the caves!

I don’t know why people use the word fan or fanboy so lightly :?
I hope this makes you think twice before calling yourself a fan boy 8O

A fan or supporter is someone who has an intense, occasionally overwhelming liking of a sporting club, person, group of persons, company, product, work of art, idea, or trend. Fans of a particular thing constitute its fanbase or fandom. They may start a fan club, hold fan conventions, create fanzines, write fan mail, or engage in similar activities.

In some cases, individual fans may become so obsessed with the objects of their infatuation that they become fanboys/fangirls. These fans engage in behaviors that are considered extreme or abnormal. This includes idolatry or other forms of worship, such as creating a personal shrine dedicated to the idol at one's home, and can sometimes extend to the point of the fans become stalkers.

Fanboy or fanboi is a term used to describe an individual (usually male, though the feminine version fangirl may be used for females) who is utterly devoted to a single fannish subject, or to a single point of view within that subject, often to the point where it is considered an obsession. Fanboys remain loyal to their particular obsession, disregarding any factors that differ from their point of view. They are also typically hateful to the opposing brand or competition of their obsession regardless of its merits or achievements.

I am quite sympathetic to ATi. My first card was an ollldddd nVidia, but my first "performance chip" was ATi. On my second now.

But don't get me wrong. I nvidias G90 arch kicks a**, I'd go with them. Maybe. (only if it was like a, oh, 35-50% performance boost.) Besides, the outstanding mobo's, and special memory support has me already looking (slightly).

I'm a bit partial to ATi. They have been leading nVidia in performance for the past 3 generations of cards (not counting 8800 series). But with the price of the 8600 Ultra being rumored around $179, ATi better have a good answer.

I'll rather just say nothing about that...

I've had more than enough of both or put them in builds (Riva TNT's, 3 of them I think, GF4 MX 440, GF5200, 2 ATI 9200's, GF5700, GF6600, ATI X700, ATI X1300, GF7600 (currnetly) and an X1900XTX for my cousin).

There is more (the older stuff) but I won't go into that.

I think i like nVidia a bit more than ATI.Dont know why , and i had more ATI cards than nVidia and my all time favorite was 9700 Pro.As i said i dont know why.

owned 2 nvidia and 2 ATI, and honestly, after suffering a Geforce 2MX 400
and its horrible (my other one was a tnt2 ) bugs, and random studdering ( with agp )

made me get kinda biased towards ati, wich havent failed me yet ( RD9800 pro then to X800 GTO moded to X850XT )

I have bought excellent products from both and been happy with every purchase. I am completely graphics card agnostic. When it's time to buy, I look at reviews of the best available compare the benchmarks that matter to me (ie the games I like to play) and then buy from a reputable manufacturer. I don't care about bundles. Price, performance, manufacturer and warranty are the only things I am interested in.

Here's the cards I've owned or still own:
Hercules TNT
Hercules 3DProphet MX
VisionTek GeForce 3 Ti 200
ATI Radeon 9700 Pro
ATI All-in-Wonder 9600 (AGP)
Diamond 9600XT (AGP)
BFG 6800GT OC (AGP)
ATI X1900XTX
XFX 7600GT XXX (AGP)

Nearly split down the middle. I still have 5 of them in various systems. When it comes time to hop on the DX10/Vista train, I will objectively look at both chipmakers offerings and buy whatever is best.

Really, buying because you are sympathetic to one company over the other is like betting on a sports team with your heart rather than your head, it's a waste of money. The very same can be said for CPU's. If I had built rig in in the sig in April rather than September, it would have been AMD (either an X2 or Opteron) cause at that time they were the best. As it turns out, Intel pulled their head out of their collective a$$es and gave us something to lust over.

I don't know how else to say it, being brand loyal is crazy, it flies in the face of logic.

I'm slightly partial to ATI, only because all of the ATI brand cards that I've bought have worked well for me. That's not to say that they've always had the best performance, because they have not.
I started ATI with their mach 32 chipset, and have worked my way to X1950 pro. I've also had experience with a very old cirrus logic video card, an S3 trident, and an old card that was called Orchid. I'm not sure that Orchid was the brand name or the chipset, it was very old.

I lean towards nVidia but I've only had two cards (both nvidia but the 5200FX sucked!) in total so I can't really say one way or another.

Lol I'm a shameless ATI fan boy, i can't help it i just love Ati. First card i had was an old 8500, then the crappy nvidia fx5200. after that got the beautiful 9800xt, performed so sweet until i changed over to PCI-express so now im stuck with a very painfully slow nvidia 6600 vanilla. joy. anyone have a cheap card better then mine they wanna sell or give to me?? lol. LONG LIVE ATI & R600!!!woot haha
