Yeah you read it right!!!

All you Nvidia fans (and I am one) may be siked and laughing at 3dfx but I do not think this is good! Who's left? ATI and uh maybe Matrox and Kyro and ??? Well ATI is the only real competition for the PC. Nvidia is after the laptop and I'm sure won't let Matrox just steal back the workstation that easily.

So where is the competition? Where are our prices going to go? Will nvidia keep up the pace? ATI probally won't have a new card 'til next fall. 3dfx was to have a good competitor this spring and unlease the Mosaic next fall (ref. article <A HREF="http://www.penstarsys.com/editor/Today/nvidia/nvda2/index.html" target="_new">http://www.penstarsys.com/editor/Today/nvidia/nvda2/index.html</A>. Will Nvidia capitalize and crush the copetition with this technology? Or will it be lost? (I wish ATI, Matrox or someone else bought them, hell even Intel or AMD)

We need competition to drive technology and price. Market alone and the little bit of comp from ATI is not to suffice.

I hope I am wrong.

Here's one article:

just found another blurb:

I think the buyout of 3dfx will lead to more expensive graphics card.

After Nvidia eliminate most competition, they would possess the muscle to dictate prices.

they won't be able to dictate prices to me, there is no way in hell I am paying $500 for an nvidia card... case closed

The game makers are just going to have to get used to actually leanring how to program optimized code for existing cards

I afraid the mighty Nvidia would control every market segment from entry level to high-end. Competitors and consumers are simpily powerless to resist their will.

May be next year, the best choice or should I say the only choice for consumer will be a solution from NVIDIA.

ATI better get their act together with good driver support and faster card releases or Nvidia is going to control the graphics card segment like Intel in the microprocessor segment.

Guess we'll have to get used to using Nvidia products. I can live with that! I don't relish paying a weeks salary for a decent videocard though.

I think the technology market in computers is swinging back to processors and away from the videocard market. People have all the gaming power they need if they have a decent geforce or geforce 2. But now apps that require oodles of cpu power (like video ripping) are becoming popular.

This is good, maybe with enough cpu market competition, I can get a cpu that will let me flask a dvd in a few minutes by this time next year! : )

Sorry to see you leave the party 3dfx, but you went downhill after the voodoo2.
