hey there global, i was having a real doubt as if nvidia is downgrading the performance of previous generation GPU's in order to promote their new 1000 series .. so is it worth buying an nvidia card for a long term use ? or should i go for Amd RX 480 over it?

Solution
The 780 ti came with 3GB of VRAM and a lot of games started eating VRAM like crazy, thats why you see the 970 outperforming a 780 ti in modern tittles. Anyway, if you dont plan to upgrade en 4-5 years go for a RX 480, amd cards have been aging very well since the 7xxx series.

but at certain bechmarks say that gtx 780's were supressed by gtx 970 ? what does that mean?

i also heard that amd improves their gpu performance through drivers while nvidia focuses only on their latest generation gpus. so wouldn't it be amd than nvidia if i'm going to use it for another 4~5 yrs?

The 780's performance was always worse than the GTX 970. It was the 780 TI that the GTX 970 went back and forth with. Some say that drivers slowly cause the 780 Ti to become slower and slower than 970 at most titles.
