Hi guys........

nVidia G80 Rumours

Nvidia’s code-named G80 graphics processing unit (GPU) will incorporate 48 pixel shader processors and an unknown number of vertex shader processors, some unofficial sources said. The chip is still expected to support feature-set of DirectX 10 along with Shader Model 4.0, even though it will not take advantage of the unified processors that can compute both pixel and vertex shaders.

Marv Burkett revealed that GeForce 7200 and 7600 series will last between one to one and half year. G71 will be 90nm and is expected to be much higher clocked at 750MHz. As for G80, the development process has been smooth and is slated for mid 2006 release which i suppose during Computex 2006. Also G80 will support Shader Model 4.0.

My personal opinion is that all the SPECS on the 7900 are speculation as I can't find any info regarding the 7900 on nVidia.com. I know nVidia will not leak this kind of info but as I said this is my PERSONAL opinion.

I think nVidia will suprise us all with the 7900 series cards.

I am a nVidia fan so I am waiting is suspence. I have nothing against ATI, their X1900 series card perform very well.

I feel that Nvidia rushed the G71 to put full force behind G80 and hence have something ready for Vista. They did run into die frequency problems, and being a hard launch I guess they decided to release and get on with G80.

I'd also recon that ATi will have the upper hand in unified processing, as they obviously have a good relationship with MS right now. From what I've read the R500 chip does in fact use unified processing at this stage.

Bit of useless information...

Can you say Geforce Lan 3.0? Besides the 7900 is just a stop gap....almost like a 7800GTX 512 ultra but instead they call it the 7900..

the geforce 7900 is basically a die shrink. the reason why ATI has the x1900xt out so fast after the x1800 was because ATI planned the x1900 to come out in early january, the x1800 was just delay too much so by the time it came out, it was almost time to release the x1900. people will speculate the next series of chips anyways, even if the new one hasnt come out yet. it's like cpu, graphics company need to have a roadmap to follow. you know ati and nividia is already preparing for graphics card 2-3 generations ahead if not more.

the reason why the 7900 isnt on the nvidia site is because it's hasnt been officially announced yet. they're going to announce it at the end of this week in cebits. if they announce it earlier then they do kind of lose their "surprise" even though it's all over the internet.

Exactly. 7900 is a Vista/HDCP ready card by default and gives upgraders the ability to buy a card that will support Vista right now so they don't have to rebuy later if they don't want to.

I for one welcome our new media overloards.

man by looking at your pic. I can see a FanATIc.

So i can see anything you say will be truly unbiased.

going back to the actually topic, its all speculation untill released.

Fair enough, but history has shown that once cards are in heavy production you can't keep the facts from the public. There are too many cards out there for credible leaks not to happen if everyone is producing them for the market.

There are just too many of them out there in the wild for ALL of the rumors to be wrong at this point. And all of tthe rumors are giving the same story.

It's the same thing every time. Hopefully Nvidia's next card will come soon, like the X1900 came after the X1800.

You wanna back that up with some solid information? The CHIP may be HDCP compliant, but the card isn't necessarily. The sticking point sofar has been the connector, not the chips.

What's new about the GF7900, HDMI, HDCP enabled DVI for once?

Actually, I'm for any company that provides me with good times graphics wise, and thus far ATi treated me well. If Nvidia can produce similar results as ATi in a new gen card, I'll go for Nvidia. My avatar I would really like to change to the Ramones logo, but I can't - for some odd and depressing reason.

Furthermore, the 7900GTX does not comply fully with DX10 spec. DX10 uses SM4.0 for instance aswell as unified architecture - and currently only the gcard chip on the Xbox 360 has anything remotely supporting this.

Not the 7900 or 1900 is 100% DX10 compliant. It will work on Vista, but it's not a DX10 card. The G80 and Rxxx will be the first truly DX10 cards, and that's why all effort in development is shifted for June/July. Vista only ships after this time, but beta's will be out and Nvidia and ATi need driver feedback and testing.
