Just because a card has more onboard memory than another, doesn't mean its better or faster. It has a lot to do with the memory interface and how much actual rendering the GPU can complete. They market 'big RAM' on a video card so that people think the bargain deal is also in-line with great performance...not always the case.

Problem, is that in this case, the lack of VRAM DOES make a big difference.

with GTX460 the difference between the two is not the amount of VRAM alone, the 1GB version also have wider memory interface which is directly impact the total performance of the card. btw this GTS450 is a mainstream card so i personally think that people who are going to buy this card will play around 1600x900 and below

gtx460 is a great choice for money..and its power consumption is great too..and very cool card without any overheating issues !!! its way cheaper than 5850 and same performance as 5850 !!! sometimes it out performs 5850 !!!

I agree its hard to justify nVidia at this moment. They finally came out with a decent card in the GTX460, but now what? They are a year late to the party and their lower end iterations are taking longer to market then ATI did earlier this year. With Southern Islands so close, it seems impractical to hold your breath for nVidia's fixed Fermi.

I'm not choosing sides here, but it does seem to me that Nvidia is generating these leaks and other information forthcommings as a PR stunt to help draw in some money; or distract customers from competitors products or news.

Nothing exciting about this 'new' product if you can simply go to the store right now and get a GTX260 to accomplish the same thing. Yea it doesn't have the same power efficiency, but big deal.

If this 'new' card is priced higher than the GTX260 then it will be pointless to buy since you can get the 260 for less than $200.

I'm still good on gtx260 core 216. they need to keep pricing graphic cards like that one to keep me in the hobby. there's other things to spend money on.

GTX2XX series cards are getting harder to find though. Newegg just has five listed and two of them are re-certified. As much as people may think the GTX4XX line isn't as good as it should be, it will soon be the only option for higher end Nvidia graphics cards. I suggest that anyone who wants a GTX2XX series card, get it now.

directx11 and better power usage I guess. anything that's going to put the price of the 5770 down is a good thing.

So buy a mid level fermi for $120 (?) or a 6000 series for christmas? hmm. I have a few months to think. As for the VRAM stuff, obviously interface, speed of ram, etc directly effects rendering/function. My question to the experts is concerning RAM. It`s really all about frame buffer right? Not enough FB to render, it crashes ja?
