Think of the Founders Edition as a special edition or for example a premium tank in world of tanks. Which is what it is. So for those who want to dish out the extra for a premium for the looks, that's what it's made for.

there are a number of cards that are basically reference cards with the blower fan and same specs. these would be better buys since they should be at the bottom end of the price scheme, yet perform the same as the high priced FE. you can still have a "founder's edition" if you don't mind it not looking exactly the same as nvidia's version. any of the 1 fan models listed in the first post would be "reference" design.

No, SFR (Split-Frame Rendering) has two GPUs create a single frame. Neither NVIDIA or AMD support this mode these days, because it's very hard to manage. Both use AFR (Alternate-Frame Rendering), where each GPU handles either Odd/Even numbered frames. So GPU 1 does frame 1, and GPU 2 does frame 2.

http://docs.nvidia.com/gameworks/content/technologies/desktop/sli.htm

The issue is, while each GPU only has to do half the normal frames, there will still be those hard to process frames that take significantly longer to render. As a result, you can start running into problems once either card starts to underperform, which is quite apparent. So while SLI'd 970's may be excellent today, once we reach the point where 970's will individually start to lag, SLI will make the latency issues a lot worse, resulting in more stuttering then if you just went with a single, more powerful GPU.

Can somebody tell me exactly third party release in America ?

Gigabyte gtx 1080 g1 gaming
Gigabyte gtx 1080 extreme
Asus strix gtx 1080
Msi gtx 1080
Evga gtx 1080

Where can i buy it ?? I didn't see them on Amazon.

What should i chose ? ( msi, evga, asus, gigabyte ?

My system:
Gigabyte z170 gaming 7
Core i7 6700k
16gb ram 3000mhz ( will upgrade to 32gb )
Corsair 1000w 80+ plantium

like the 100 other people who have asked. we do not know EXACTLY when or where these cards will show up. all you can do is keep an eye on the various stores for them to show up and be in stock. most of those are already for sale but just out of stock everywhere. gonna take a few more weeks for all these cards to be readily available. be patient and wait or hit refresh a ton of times at your fav online store until one pops up you want.

and again it seems like the cards will all cap at the same oc speeds. you're basically picking the one you think looks the best at the rigth price. read the reviews that are out for differences in cooling and stock speeds. second post in this thread has links to all the reviews i have seen for all the cards that have been tested so far. if you don't want to oc the card yourself, picking the higher clocked cards out of the box will obviously net the highest performance (if only by a few fps over FE but higher anyway)

Amazon has pretty much all of them listed, My understanding is that a lot of the cards are scheduled for release on the 16th, at least that is what some of the pre-orders have listed as shipping dates. But they seem to be completely spoken for.

Until this initial rush dies down, I don't think it is going to be easy to get one.

You don't really need 32GB of memory unless you like to run lots of applications simultaneously.

I get what you're saying and it's definitely something I'll think about the next time I go GPU shopping. Would you say then, in your opinion, that the only time SLI would be "reccommended" is if you already have one high tier GPU and instead of upgrading to the next generation or say from a 1080 to a 1080 ti, particularly if you're going for higher resolution/multiple monitors, you get a second card of the same type?

At the time I had the choice to upgrade to a second 980 or go for a 980 ti there were no single card options that consistently delivered 60+ FPS at ultra settings at 1440p. Since I'd just upgraded monitors to said resolutoin at 144hz I needed something to push those framerates and I didn't want to compromise graphics options to do so.

Misquote mate, I never posted that. 😉

Here's the way I view it: if one 980 is struggling, then so will two, because they work on alternate frames. The FPS will be there, but you will see the effects of latency (dropped frames/stuttering). But as long as a single 980 is able to push out sufficient frames, you get the benefit of 90% scaling by adding a second.

Basically, two 980's go obsolete just as fast as one of them would, the difference being until that point, you get more FPS.

I am yet to see an SLI setup that scales beyond 60%
40% seems to be the average

There was one of the C.O.D's that scaled at 100% and I have seen other games that have got close to that over the years that I have been running SLi rigs.

It's hard to throw out broad generalizations about SLI scaling when so much of it is dependent on the CPU and resolution.

My favorite part from that GTX 1080 Ti/Titan article:
If it does even a bit better than the Geforce 1080, which was the most successful high end selling product in more than a decade, then Nvidia will be laughing all the way to the bank.

that's exactly what it sounds like if you have been following the amd rumors. end of the month 3 new amd cards show up. these should do some serious shaking up of the mid-lower end of the prices. won't effect the 1070/80 but the rest is gonna be hurting if all proves true.

Yeah I mean it's not so bad in the USA. The UK prices are crushing. I am thinking seriously about missing out on Pascal altogether, and battling on with my 980.

just recall reading about it some. mostly associated with amazon trying to standardize prices across europe to make their life easier. but it seemed like a popular idea so i wonder if it is coming along to be implemented in the future.

I doubt they'll ever get rid of VAT. Why should they get rid of free income? ^^
On the upside, if you're running a business you can get a "vat alleviation" for the stuff you buy for the office so it's not all just dark ages and EU mafia.

Oh amazon are super smart. When we order from amazon we pay the price with VAT(~20% depending on country) but amazon pays only about 1% VAT. That's what EU wants to change because it's literally billions of euros that Amazon keeps to itself.

Both URLs are the same exact link.

If your talking about either the G1 Gaming or Xtreme card vs the Founders Edition, then the two custom cooled cards are so much better. You only buy the Founders Edition for looks, or you need that kind of cooler for your case.

It's pretty much a no brainer for most of us, the G1 gaming/Xtreme cards are cheaper and perform way better in overclocking than the founders card.
