Except HD often refers to 720p, with FHD referring to 1080p. The confusion continues 😛

Let's just stick to its last nominator just for Toms, shall we? Like 768p for 1366x768 or 1080p for 1920x1080, and so on.

The reason why the industry even use the word 'definition' to define a screen is still beyond me. Marketing, I guess. Stick it with '???p' would you please 🙁
It's almost like the industry trying to shades the concept of pixels density for image quality.
Shouldn't take that much letter just to phrase a screen.
While many people would still not get it, it wouldn't be too hard to explain if there are simply pixel's density nominator slapped on it. Much less hassle than trying to explain what a 'definition' is.
I'm so tired...

!070 is disappointing. The benchmarks are out and I saw them in comparison with other gpus on 22 games and it can barely beat 980 Ti. Nvidea claimed 1070 to be faster than Titan X and its completely false.

Did you even look at the graphs in this article? The 1070 tied the Titan in two benchmarks, and beat it in the rest. Saying the 1070 is faster is a pretty fair statement.

Good point. :pt1cable:

I'm going to get a card after summer along with a Oculus Rift. Guess I found the winner with this 1070! I believe along with my i5-6500 I'll be withing the specs for a top notch VR esperience...

What could Nvidia bring us whith 11X0 series? I think it might worth to wait if you own a 970 as I. (sorry for my english)

lol you're so far ahead of things it's not even worth speculating. we don't even have the full 10 series yet. an upgrade is only needed if what you currently have is not good enough anymore for what you are trying to do. if the 970 still covers your needs, there is no reason to get a new card. stick with what you have for now. don't buy something just cause it's newer.

I agree.

I'm waiting for this launch almost year ago, when i build for the first time my system (Already build others, but never for myself).

Also, i want to add to this, wait for the competition (amd, cap obvious!), maybe you can find the right hardware for your system saving some bucks and, who knows, getting better performance!

Enjoy the build, and no upgrade only for newest piece of hardware. Keep calm and enjoy the technology we have today within our reach, and, lucky for us, the competition.

So its only me here that considers less then 100fps playable? And optimal around 100 and above... I might have a eye sight above average that 60 fps in games scrathes my eyes..

The irony is that the more one uses a high-frequency display, the less one can tolerate traditional 60Hz units and related frame rates (ref. New Scientist).

Meanwhile, those saying a 1070 is overkill for 1080p are generalising too much. It depends on the game, any mods used, and one's predilection for max detail. My monitor is 1920x1200, With the settings I use for Crysis, even my 980 can't sustain 60Hz. For other games, the VRAM limit of older cards can be an issue, and I'm not referring to the FUD surrounding the 970's design; rather, for example, the settings I use for Elite Dangerous are not quite as high as I would like (one SMAA setting less than hoped for) because to do so would use more than 4GB VRAM (tested, way too choppy, reduced the SMAA one notch, smooth, confirmed by Afterburner monitoring). Even then, it's not sustaining 60fps all the time, so if/when I move up to 1440p or 4K I'll get at least a 1080, maybe wait for the 1080 Ti.

Well if this is an honest review, then I would have to say that Titan X is now a budget, sub 300 dollar card. I would be pretty mad right now if I were a Titan X user, especially since Nvidia new their 1070 cards were faster and cheaper, but kept the prices high on Titan X when they should have dropped the prices way down a long time ago.

if your relative or someone else is coming from usa or Canada tell him to buy from there in Pakistan the gtx 980 ti strix cost online pkr 95000($908) which is pretty expensive and a gtx 970 cost pkr 42500($406) so my guess is that 1070 will cost like pkr 40000

On the 1080p

Nvidia with three DP ports are easiest for triple monitor setups.
With the price of 1080p 60Hz monitors so low many have gone triple.
I went with the AOC 1080p 144Hz monitors reviewed here at TOM's
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/aoc-g2460pqu-144-hz-gaming-monitor,3827.html

The 1070 with 8G seem like a great buy for me and a good path for SLI.

But the prices for Adaptive/free sync monitors (with wider Hz range) coming down means that and AMD triple setup with their new cards would be a great option for those getting started too.

1080p is a waste with either a 1080 or 1070. that's why it is not included. if you are only playing 1080p, then stick with a 970 or wait for the 1060 to show up whenever that is. it's not worth the time t test just to say "look at that big number". if you REALLY need them, look for 980ti/titan x 1080p numbers and add a few to that. oh wait there are few of them as well, since they are also WAY overkill for 1080p.

Some people do like to max out all settings and some have 120-144Hz monitors. So we like those big numbers. Sometimes, in fast games it's nice to have 120FPS.
And some people change their HW once in awhile. So I buy slightly overpowered card that lasts for 3-4 years fine.
And as owner of 1920x1200 24" IPS monitor, i see no reason to change it until it dies.

I had my (then) three years old 24" LCD die a few years ago. I brought it back to life by replacing a few caps. LG is not going to cheat me out of $300 that easily or quickly. Still works fine today, six years after that repair.

Lol ... My is also dating back to 2007 :)
But I do not mind it to die. I'd like to have a justification (beyond "I want that shiny thing" ) to buy ultra wide monitor :)
But that's off topic 😉

Well hold on I pretty sure the RX480 with 4GB is MSRP of $200 if you planing on CF them to compare to the 1070/1080 you probably going to have to look at that 8GB which I bet(or guess) is probably going to be $250 so more like $500 (still cheaper than 1080) but now you have to deal with CF scaling (same as you would with SLI). I have been running CF 7870LE's (basically 7950 with only 2GB instead of 3GB and 256bit) that I picked up a few years ago while they have been fun I'm looking to get back to one card setup. I haven't had any major issues but some games just don't scale, and they are very loud (though I do have a very aggressive fan profile) and I really only game at 1080p. If the the benchmarks pan out and it performs like a 390x then I will probably pick up a quieter lower power PSU (I have a 850 bronze PSU) and the 4GB RX480. While it maybe more a side upgrade for games that scale well on CF, it still will increase my min fsp and I won't have to worry about scaling.

The 1070 would be a nice upgrade but since I have no plans for VR or replacing my monitor in the next 2-3 years there not really a point to pay the extra 180+. I don't think (could be wrong) the 1060/50 line will be release for another few month I doubt will be faster than the RX480 (again pending benches).

nope .. it will be 300 watts for both cards VS 150 watt 1070

plus the minimum FPS on the 1070 will be allways faster than two RX480 cards

and I doubt that 2 RX480 cards would beat GTX 1070

and nvidia 1080 is 180 watts only , I prefer that over 300 watts and huge case and more expensive power supply

As I usually say to people who say 1080p with this card is overkill. Yes but if you have a high refresh rate monitor, then it's the right choice! I have a 144hz BenQ. I want to hit 140+ FPS on every game maxed out on 1080p. Can a 980ti do that? nope. But this will xD I'm goin for the 1080 ti and eventually grab a G-Sync 2K monitor.

you're about the 10th person to say that and all i have in answer is CONGRATS on the super fps. you're my hero and all i aspire to be in my life 😀

well not really but if it helps you get to sleep at night to be able to say that, then by all means, don't let me stop you. nvidia thanks you as well since they get to sell someone a card who was not the intended buyer. bonus for them and WWWOOOOHHHHOOOOO to you. :spamafote:
