This is mad. I had many 60 series cards and always paid some 200 Euro. Now I am supposed to pay 350? No thank you nvidia.

RTX should never of bee ntheir "mainstream" lineup.

It should ofbeen their "optional" lineup.

RTX is a niche market where most ppl wont care about it and msot just want a good card to enjoy their games as they have the past decade.
Let alone there was nothing to USE its niche rtx and even still months later it is extremely limited.

though that pricing means the 1160 is likely gonna be around 300...yikes.

I'm not sure I believe the RTX enabled FPS numbers they have listed. Several other sites are showing the 2080 hitting those at 1080p. Also, why don't the tables include the fps for BF5 with ray tracing on? They only show it with ray tracing off. Am I blind?

Edit: looks like they went back and added BF5 with ray tracing. Still not sure I believe them.

i know it's farfetched... but why aren't you putting the most popular game on the planet in your benchmarks for FPS? Do I even need to name it for you?

Well I guess GTX 1070Ti like performance for about US$100-$150 less than those currently sell for is pretty good(?). Shame about the 6GB of VRAM though - would have liked to see 8GB on it like the two cards it's competing with from the previous gen (i.e. GTX 1070 and 1070Ti).

So its 30% faster than gtx 1060 (a 3 year old card), and it costs 40% more. I don't understand how Nvidia plans on selling mid-range cards that offer less value than their 3 year old predecessors.

While this is insanely bad, we kind-of knew what to expect by the 20-series 70/80/80Ti cards.

When this launches, people will have had their GTX 1070 for 3 years. It means that 3 years later new buyers can pay the same money for the same ballpark of performance, and that's the best case scenario assuming that those cards even sell for their launch price. We've never had that much stagnation in the GPU market and we're really seeing that Nvidia is the Intel of GPUs.

After Pascal, I was quite fond of them, but they are showing that when they're sure there's no competition, they will gouge as much as they can without making any meaningful performance progress. We're also back to hoping AMD and Intel manage to outdo them next year and if they do, I know where I'll want my money not to go.

just hope Intel also competes in a few years as Nvidia seriously needs competition as they are getting crazy

I remember when I bought my first brand new car in '86. $6,955. Next year's model was more expensive. nothing new added. Next year's model went up. Some changes. etc etc. Now similar car is $27,000. Don't see why people expect lower for each line-up. Sure there were innovations, but we still want a good ole $6,995 car.

Pretty soon, like a car, buy it used for less. As people whine for raises, the products have to cover those raises.

Can you elaborate on that? Post references?

Since the initial slate of ray tracing benchmarks in early November, Battlefield 5 was patched to improve ray tracing performance. The performance boost was around 50% across the board. I'm sure the 2060 benchmarks are either on the current patch or possibly an upcoming patch, so you shouldn't compare them to the original benchmarks from November. DICE has said that further ray tracing performance improvement patches are coming soon.

i recall reading soemwhere the "patch" was done by actually removing some RT stuff and thats how it lessened the performance impact.

What do you mean 100-150 less?

These benchmarks results are bogus. Tom's own benchmark tests show different results :

AOS benchmark :

GTX1080 @ 1440p extreme +- 70fps - leaked numbers show 54
GTX1070 @ 1440p extreme +- 57fps - leaked numbers show 42
GTX1070ti @ 1440p extreme +- 71fps - leaked numbers show 52

https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/nvidia-geforce-gtx-1070-ti-8gb,5311-5.html

I will take these "leaked" numbers with a butt load of salt. I will wait for 3rd party reviewer as always.

I have to agree.

it will be nice to see more players in the market, but its intel, likely to see their prices equally as bad nvidia's

Inflation in consumer goods is always a factor year over year. That said, i'm not so sure the price increase is the bulk of that phenomenon rather it's the PC gaming market maturing to where there's a greater demand for "higher end" tech. But if I'm to read the 'tea leaves' here, this increase is a bridge to far. Perhaps enough of a backlash to where the overton window will shift back sensible product innovations at reasonable prices.

2080Ti is in its own league
2080 replaces the 1080Ti in performance and price
2070 replaces the 1080 in performance and price
2060 replaces the 1070Ti in performance and price

Ideally value should increase with each generation, but the RTX pricing convention isn't as outrageous as some people are making it out to be.
