Hi all,
I need your advice on a choice for a new graphics card. First of all my budget is £450 approx. My current set up is as follows, all are stock, nothing overclocked :
cpu : Intel Extreme i7 990x 3.47 Ghz 6 cores
mobo : Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD7
ram : Corsair Dominator 24 GB, 2000MHz
graphics : EVGA GeForce GTX 690 4 GB
hard drives : 256 GB Samsung 850 Pro
: 1 GB Western Digital Black
: 4 GB Western Digital Black
Monitor : Dell 27 inch 1440p
I do not know which Graphics card to purchase, either a GTX 1070 or a GTX 980 Ti. I always game at ultra high settings and have had my GTX 690 for just over 3 years now. Sometimes whilst in game my fps drops to below 30. First of all will the above graphics cards be compatible with my motherboard and secondly which should I go for?

* If he's running a GTX690 off it, it'll handle a GTX980Ti/1070 easily. 😉

If you can find one, the GTX1070 outperforms the GTX980Ti, but not by a huge margin.
If you're impatient, the GTX980Ti is still a VERY fast card and with the recent price cut it's price/performance now matches or slightly betters that of the GTX1070, not sure about other E-tailers but you can pick up some decent 980Tis off Overclockers for a shade under £360.

^ Over on this side of the Pond (the UK) the GTX 980Ti is a little cheaper than the GTX1070, thanks to the recent Nvidia price cut and, unlike the '1070, it's widely available.
For me, the deciding factor would be the type of monitor the OP has, if it's a 60Hz 1440 display he'll see little difference between the cards anyway, either can drive most games in excess of 60FPS, assuming the 'old' i7 in his rig can feed the new card properly.

here a 980 ti is still 600$
