Nvidia GTX 970 not booting into BIOS (or anything else)

I recently made a well researched, yet seemingly risky decision to try and upgrade a Dell tower server I own and turn it into a gaming rig.

I did the necessary research, and though it was looking grim at first, I discovered that I should indeed be able to upgrade my machine with minimal issue.

The machine I have is a Dell t110 ii.

The graphics card it had prior was an Nvidia GeForce 6200 LE.

I purchased a 500w power supply and an Nvidia GTX 970, both are EVGA brand to ensure all my power and connections for power would be satisfied as my mother board cannot power a GTX 970 obviously.

I am having a weird dilemma. Everything is "working" so to speak. I can turn it on and everything is spinning, and I even get some video output...but that's where the problem begins.

The output on the monitor isn't even showing BIOS much less anything else.

It simply shows a blank black screen with the grey little "_" prompt similar to terminal or command prompt, and it slowly fades out over time.

So based on that information I know my graphics card seems to be "working" but there is obviously a bit of conflict at some point when powering up or booting.

I have updated my BIOS, but I have very weird limited control over the graphics card inside them, and I have tried taking out the CMOS battery to reset everything.

I can still use my previous graphics card (which is how I updated the BIOS) and the on board graphics card works, but is not very reliable for some reason I'm not sure of.

I have searched and searched, and I found some similar issues but none quite as unique as mine.

Any help or guidance is much appreciated!

My best guess is that my BIOS isn't recognizing the card, but I am very unsure what the problem is.

with some system with onboard video port the mb video port is the main video output. some times you have to go into the bios look for display adator or primany display and set it to peg/pci not onboard. if the primany dispaly cant be turned off in the bios then disable it in windows and reboot to see if the 970 becomes the main output.

Okay so I gave this shot, and in the process figured out why my mobo display port wasn't working. I had another card (proprietary dell honestly not sure what it is other than something to power the SATA cables on my previous power supply) that I do not need when using my old graphics card. I removed it because I figured I didn't need it for the new one either. That still may be the case as when I installed 970 along side of this device, it received the same result.

As a result I can't even try your solution as the mobo display port produces no output at all as long as any other graphics card is plugged in. Which leads me to believe that my settings are correct in that area at least.

Any other ideas?

The solution I have come up with is to purchase a motherboard compatible with my GPU, CPU, and PSU, to replace the Dell motherboard. Leaving the only thing still "poweredge t110 ii" about this machine its case!

The mobo I am purchasing is a MSI H61M-P31/W8 Micro ATX LGA1155 Motherboard

It should be fully compatible, so for anyone else owning a Poweredge t110 ii who happens to be doing something similar, this mobo replacement seems to be a fairly inexpensive way to make it all work!

Will update this once I have completed the build, but this is my accepted solution, as I'd rather not break the parts I do have since everything does work to some extent

The mobo you mentioned is quit different from the stock one. I guess you can not fit it in the stock case. Did you purchase another case as well?
