My friend told me that AMD cards generally perform worse for VR than Nvidia, like for example apparently the 6900XT on average beats the 3090 in gaming on desktop, but lacks far behind it when it comes to VR.
Is that true in your experience?

I was pretty tempted to get a 7900XTX when I saw the announcement, but if that will barely improve my VR performance, if not make it worse, then I can't do it.

Thank you in advance.

nobody has tested the 7900XTX yet but this is the 3090 vs 6900XT

I see, that does look like AMD isn't a good option when VR is involved, it looked really choppy on the 6900XT and when he ran the Reverb G2 at native resolution, the experience on the 6900XT was just horrible.
Thanks for linking this video, I'm going to wait a little bit and see if anyone else has anything to say about it.

That video is from a year ago, maybe new drivers down the line helped the performance, however it still doesn't look good for the 6900XT. If you have a thousand bucks to burn, I'd say wait till RDNA 3 reviews are out.

Nvidia is better. 2 reasons:
  1. AMD drivers are currently not working properly for VR. It's an encoder bug, for some reason it's limited to 100Mbps, HEVC is not working, and Airlink won't use it properly. This issue is present since the driver version 22.2.3. They say they are fixing it, but who knows when...
  2. Even if AMD's drivers worked flawlessly, NVENC is a little bit better than AMF, at higher bitrates it's not really a huge deal, but it's still better.
