nVidia TwinView and Windows XP

I know this has probably been posted before, but I couldn't find it...

I have a Dell customer that purchased a new Dell Dimension with XP Home Edition pre-installed and a nVidia GeForce2 MX video card. The problem he's having is that TwinView doesn't seem to work... he can output to either TV or monitor, but not both. Is this a known issue with nVidia and XP, or did Dell simply leave out TwinView support in their nVidia cards?

The Windows XP default drivers don't have true multi-monitor support.

Supposedly, the latest leaked Nvidia Detonator drivers (27.10 or better) have improved multi-monitor features, now called nView instead of TwinView. According to the website, nView has features similar to ATI's HydraVision, for example, menu commands and hotkeys for moving windows to different monitors, buttons for maximizing a window to the desktop, and several other hotkeys.

The drivers can be downloaded from <A HREF="http://www.3dchipset.com/drivers/beta/nvidia/series2xx.shtml" target="_new">here</A>, or also from this <A HREF="http://www.warp2search.net/download.php?op=viewsdownload&sid=9" target="_new">page</A>.

I haven't heard anything about Dell leaving out TwinView support. They are selling ATI cards that certainly support the dual-display architecture ... which leads me to believe that your problem is with the driver, not the card.

I hope this works for you ... I've seen more than a few people starting to complain about the same kind of problem since upgrading to WinXP with this particular card.

Let me know if this works, and I'll pass it around.

Passed the info on to the customer... hopefully it works for him. I'll let you know how it goes...

Thanks again Toey
