Welp, my NZXT Kraken x42 lasted approximately 1 year before I realized it’s been leaking from the radiator and killed my CPU.

I noticed my PC was running slowly over the past few months, but chalked it up to the aging i5-3750k and Battlefield being... well Battlefield. It became apparent something was wrong with my hardware when the game randomly dropped to 5 fps then crashed.

The computer shut off and would not turn back on, so I decided to take a look inside the case. What I found was a dried white chalk like substance on my graphics card, power supply, and bottom of the case inside.

Turns out the radiator for the Kraken has been leaking for who knows how long, and finally lost enough coolant to kill my CPU. After taking the unit out you can tell it has less than half of the radiator with fluid in it. It’s leaking from somwhere in the coolant path for the cold return side within the radiator. There’s no way anything could have punctured the area it’s leaking from, the leak is well away from any mounting points and the fins on the radiator are pristine.

Long story short; im stuck with a fried 3750K, so there are no options to replace it. Basically I will have to build an entirely new PC. If you think you need liquid cooling, just build a new pc that will run your games on air cooling. Between the money I dumped into this CPU cooling unit, upgrading to the fastest DDR3 ram, upgraded fans, and SATA 3 SSD drives I could have just built an I9 and carried my video card over before it got destroyed.

Jokes on me I guess, I wanted to hotrod an old setup. Now I have to build a new PC anyways.

BTW yes this also killed my graphics card. The fans no longer spin even after cleaning the coolant off the top (backside) of the graphic card board. The powersupply (EVGA SuperNova 1000W) appears to just have dried coolant on the outside so hopefully I can salvage it.
