Hello everybody, It's my first time posting on a forum so sorry if I do something wrong.
First of all, I wanted to say that my PC is currently functional right now and I'm not seeking advice on how to resolve the issue, I just want to share my story in case anyone else also has a problem similar to mine and see if anyone has any idea what or how this might have happened.
I built my pc a month ago:
MSI B650M gaming plus wifi
R5 7600
16 * 2 T-Force DDR5 6000MT/s CL30
RX7900 gre (I know I am cpu bottle necked - planning to upgrade the cpu)
Corsair RM750e
Cooler Master 360 AIO
I had pbo on and my CPU could easily reach 5.35 GHz but I decided to go for a static OC.
So I set the multiplier to 55, I don't remember what I set the voltage to but it wasn't high. (probably 1.25v)
I ran cinebench and was getting amazing scores so I tried Y-cruncher and it crashed on the second test.
Afterwards it wouldn't post (CPU DRAM ez dbug led - no bios), so I did everything I could. I took out the cmos battery, used the jbat jumper and even flashed bios to no avail, still no post.
I took one of the ram sticks out on a whim and voila, booted right into windows. So I took the other stick out and put the one that was out back in, and the same problem appeared again (CPU DRAM led on). I tried every possible combination, each stick individually in every slot, both of them together, you name it I tried it. It would only post if that one specific stick was out.
I drew the only possible conclusion, cpu overclock killed ram?
I tried overclocking with the working stick again. (I know I'm dumb aren't I?)
Set the multiplier to 53 but this time I left the voltage untouched (auto), everything stable no crashes or anything. Seeing this I decided to push it higher but I was already seeing high power usage so I also applied a voltage offset of negative 0.1v and set the multiplier to 55 and saved and closed the bios.
The same darn problem appeared again but this time right after I closed the bios, it didn't even get to windows. CPU and DRAM leds on, nothing on the display.
I took out the cmos battery multiple times, used the jbat jumper multiple time and even flashed bios again, twice with two different versions!
I did all the possible ram combinations again but it appeared that they are both fried now.
Today I took the pc in for testing and warranty, they also concluded that the ram is faulty and replaced it with no cost (ofc I didn't mention the OC). My PC is back on and working but it is safe to say I'm not going to be overclocking it anytime soon. 🙁
I combed google and found nothing and from what I understand CPU OC cannot hurt ram but it appears that it did.
Any ideas or suggestions regarding what could have happened would be greatly appreciated. Please share your story if you have experienced something similar.
