The Rift price compared to a new 4k Gaming Monitor or good 40"+ TV... The price of the Rift can be a $1000 and Id still buy it if better than those mentioned...

"Should also point out that while the Rift won't be too expensive, neither are the parts anything you couldn't find in a $300 smartphone, and phones come with all kinds of communication parts and licenses which the OR won't require."

Those smart phones only cost $300 because they are heavily subsidized by the cell carriers. Surely the Oculus Rift is going to be more complex than a Samsung Note 3. So how in the world is the Oculus Rift going to sell for $300 with low volume while the Note 3 sells for $650 with high volume?

There is no way this thing will sell for $300 and be any good. The $300 developer version was more about marketing than anything.

Not being american I often fail at speaking mobile with them. I did mean off-contract prices. The sensors in Oculus Rift aren't anything that special, most, if not all, of them can be found in a third gen iPhone. OR might very well fail, and be rubbish, but from the many articles I've read, it feels like it already works very well, and they not rushing it to market makes me feel even better about it.
