Question Odd BSOD with Steam ?

Hello there! I hope you guys are doing fine! Been running into an extremely odd problem lately.

My PC seems to be BSODing whenever I download SQUAD from Steam (hasn't happened yet with other games, I think). I'm already 20GB into the download but it's hard to continue it any further since it'll keep bluescreening itself into oblivion.

These BSODs almost always have these codes -
UNEXPECTED_STORE_EXCEPTION (common)
CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED (this happens after I boot up the PC sometimes if I don't close Steam quickly enough)
SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION (rare, doesn't happen often)

Problem is, none of them managed to create a minidump so it's extremely hard to figure it out without those.

I wonder if it's anything to do with my storage. My Steam downloads are stored on my main SSD (870 QVO) which also has Windows 11 installed on it. I also have another 1TB HDD which is currently on the "Caution" status on CrystalDiskInfo, whereas the SSD is currently doing good.
Keep in mind I am NOT installing the game to the HDD so I don't know if it's related to the error or not.
I also think it's related to a RAM issue but I can't exactly pinpoint that right now.

Please let me know if you guys can it figure it out. Thank you!

What is the make and model of your motherboard? BIOS version for your motherboard? Can you open up Device Manager and see if there are any items flagged with a yellow exclamation mark. You should also take note of what your storage controller(IDE/ATA/ATAPI) is listed as. How much free space is on the Samsung 870 QVO? Might want to also use Samsung's Magician app and see if there's a firmware update pending.

unexpected store exception is related to the memory system so it could well be that hdd

critical process died can only happen if Microsoft processes die. There are a few where if they stop working, windows has no choice.

can you right click start
choose disk management
expand the next window so it shows both top and bottom areas
take a screen shot and upload to an image sharing website and show link here.

Can you follow option one on the following link - here - and then do this step below: Small memory dumps - Have Windows Create a Small Memory Dump (Minidump) on BSOD - that creates a file in c windows/minidump after the next BSOD

  1. Open Windows File Explore
  2. Navigate to C:\Windows\Minidump
  3. Copy the mini-dump files out onto your Desktop
  4. Do not use Winzip, use the built in facility in Windows
  5. Select those files on your Desktop, right click them and choose 'Send to' - Compressed (zipped) folder
  6. Upload the zip file to the Cloud (OneDrive, DropBox . . . etc.)
  7. Then post a link here to the zip file, so we can take a look for you . . .

Sorry for the late reply. It's an ASRock H310M-HDV. I have these items with a yellow exclamation mark:
PCI Data Acquisition and Signal Processing Controller
PCI Device
SM Bus Controller.

I haven't really done any firmware updates with the Samsung Magician software yet, but I believe it wouldn't have to do anything with that? I'm not sure.
I currently have around 70 GB free.

I unfortunately cannot send BSOD minidumps as they fail to dump even if i managed to enable them. This is funny, but it does happen.

Here's the screenshot for Disk Management:

Did that hdd ever have windows on it?

Your boot partition is on the hdd, it is probable cause of the errors. since the drive already has a warning on it, you in danger of not loading windows at all. I would buy a new ssd to replace it and clone that drive across onto it.

Or

We can create a boot partition on C but it helps if the other drive isn't plugged in.

- Boot the computer using the Windows 7/8/8.1/10 installation media.
- On the first screen, press SHIFT+F10 to bring up the command prompt.
- Run the following commands at the command prompt.

diskpart
list disk
select disk #
Note: Select the disk where you want to add the EFI System partition.
list partition
select partition #
Note: Select the Windows OS partition (# number) or your data partition.
shrink desired=100
create partition efi size=100
format quick fs=fat32
assign letter=s
list partition
list volume
Note: Note the volume letter where the Windows OS is installed.
exit

bcdboot X:\windows
/s S:
Note: Replace "X" with the volume letter of the Windows OS partition.

should work with win 11 installer

I would choose 2nd option (create new EFI) as I just noticed you have 2 of them on hdd now, and a 53gb partition with no drive letter. Cloning that would be a waste of time unless you need date on some of its partitions.
