OEM board overclocking

Is it a good idea to OC on an OEM board?

Athlon II X4 620 on a Pegatron M2N78-LA.

I doubt you even can, but it's not really a good idea anyway.

I'd be using k10stat.. My laptop has a motherboard where you can't OC but I still was able to OC with k10.

I wouldn't do it. These OEM boards are really only made to for stock clocks and such. Higher voltages could fry the VRMs.

But I wouldn't be increasing the voltages and the clock speeds would go up by not very much.

Well, then yeah, probably wouldn't hurt as long as clock speeds are the only thing you're upping. Just be sure that you can recover your stock clocks if the OC fails.

Well I tried and failed. The weird thing is when I boost the clock by even 1mhz, it clocks down from 2.6ghz to 1.6ghz. It doesn't really want to go faster, does it?

Nope. Chances of OCing without a voltage bump on OEM boards/CPUs are slim to none. They're made that way.

I don't think the voltage going up would help due to it being 1.5v already. Stock.

OEM motherboards usually lack any user configurable controls to allow for OCing. You can try to use an application like AMD Overdrive to get around those limitations, but don't expect very much in terms of gains.

I think I'll just look for a Phenom CPU for the L3 cache and retire my Athlon.. Thanks for the help everyone.
