I just order a oem copy of windows xp.
When instaling is it the same as retail version
Is the registraition process the same
will microsoft give me a hard time because if not a retail version. I had to get a oem version because the retail version is very expensive.

OEM and retail versions are identical when installing onto the computer. You can register it with Microsoft, however they will not provide telephone support. You may get email support, but if they do give you a hard time then you will have to phone the people that sold you the OEM copy for support. (Technically, that's how it's handled... usually when you buy OEM software, it comes preinstalled on a new computer system that you buy; therefore the machine builder is the support line, not Microsoft).

With that in mind, there are no other differences between the two versions. If you don't need the tech support, then by all means get the OEM version.

Nah, MS wouldn't give you a hard time with registration. It should function the same way.

Just stuff it in and answer the questions. That's all I did. The only real difference is in the documentation you get.

There is said to be after-sales support for the retail box, but I've tried it and they stonewall and wobble. Never got a straight answer I could not guess or find for myself in the knowledge base.

my dads friend bought windows xp home, full install retail, and he called tech support cause he was having some problems, and they seemed to give him no problems, and helped him fix what was wrong...for the most part..and they told him that the rage fury maxx is incompatibly with winxp, and he would only get half the card to work...
but other than that, they fixed his problems!
i myself have never had to deal with windows tech support other than their knowledge base..
