Oh the joys of networking,

When Pinging bravely into the jaws of "Destination Unknown",
When Servers scream angry red,
When Routers scoff at gateways,
When Sensors make you question faith,
When Switches sing "Ring around the rosie",
When Browsers lecture you about DNS,
When Java isn't heaping enough,
When Firewalls begin to laugh at rules,
When Windows makes you think of linux,
When Linux makes you think of Windows,
When topologies begin to visit you in dreams,
When you begin to talk at hosts like children,
When you solve an issue that spawns issues,

Then, before you brandish the almighty hammer,
Before you invoke such rightful authority,
definitely before your fingers tweak for that circuit breaker,
You should listen to that nagging voice; "Did you run yesterdays backup?"

If you have any words of wisdom of your own, please chime in.

Cheers,

- Currently deploying various things in my home lab, including server 2012, IPCOP and an IPS. :pt1cable:

Speaking of those backups. . .

--- YESTERDAY ---

Yesterday,
All those backups seemed a waste of pay.
Now my database has gone away.
Oh I believe in yesterday.

Suddenly,
There's not half the files there used to be,
And there's a milestone
Hanging over me.
The system crashed so suddenly.

I pushed something wrong,
What it was I could not say.
Now all my data's gone,
And I long for yesterday-ay-ay-ay.

Yesterday,
The need for back-ups seemed so far away.
I knew my data was all here to stay,
Now I believe in yesterday.
