thx for the feedback.
and about the lack of progress...expecting a cure for cancer is probably what most people expect, but u gotta know that gleevec is probably the first anticancer agent that interfered the disease`s mechanism. previous anticancer agents were usually emperically used, it would kill cancer, but also kill the normal cells, thus resulting its side-effects.
my opinion, cancer is like infection, we know about the structure of gram(-) cocci`s, anaerobe grems, ect so we developed effective antibiotics against them, with small, if no side effects. but about tumors? frankly, not much info. has pooled yet.
the human genome project ought to kick drug development speeds up, but after translating all the DNA sequences, we got to know which part produces which protien, ect., which is a much bigger job than the rather easy HGP. as i said above, without much knowledge of the human cellular biology, drug development was much dependent on luck. now, with biology connected with computers, development will speed up. sharing your PCs computing power with these labs is like donating to the poor, might not be much, but will definately help.
if u think "cure for cancer" developmental speed is slow, u are being impatient. 100 yrs ago, we didn`t know anything about cancer(this may be misleading, case reports about tumors exsisted even then, but nothing was known about the cellular mechanism, of the tumor`s systemic effects, ect.). now, a lot of "empirical" agents exsist, (u`ve head about drugs like cisplatin, MTX?). and recently, gleevec(which blocks the Phillidilphian chromosome, the first drug that "search and destroy"s specific tumor cells. for your information, the Phil. chromosome is one of the reason for leukemia) was developed. in the future, such specific drugs like gleevec will appear for breast cancer, colon cancer, ect. u may seem that there is not much activity in the medical society, but the reseachers in the front line are having a hell of a time trying to keep up with their colleges. development is so fast, that by the time i graduate, the textbooks which the freshmens study with have already changed.
anyway, where can i get this "seti"?
thx for feedback again.
"Is Celeron good?"
