Old computer is showing this error message

Grandmother's old computer is showing this error message:

"Windows 2000could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
<windows 2000 root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe. Please reinstall a copy of the above file".

How do I reinstall file when operating system is not opening up.

Use a Linux boot disk, copy the file from another computer, or setup the drive as a secondary in another PC and copy the file.

These errors tend to come up after there are issues with the hard-drive though, so you probaby just want to buy a new hard-drive and/or PC and copy the personal files over from this drive to the new one.
