Kat,

I hope you do not let folks allow the above to happen. It would be a shame to lose a forum member (of the other persuasion ) just because of a pissing match. Your differing view/s may be/is needed here. So not to sound like an ass.. I would like it if you would stay. We need all types of backgrounds/people here and sadly we may be lacking in folks like yourself.

HHHHHHHHAAAAAAA!!!!! Now that is funny!

But I'll always think of U as my SISTA! due to our bonding

I thought U guys would be sick as hell of me by now in my:
SEEEKING THE TRUTH QUEST! 8O

I'll be glad to stay if U really think I have something to contribute, not sure in a knowlede based site like this that I really can, but OPINIONS- oh yea, that I got 😛

I have learned so much from all of U and can actually carry on a somewhat educated converstion regarding PC parts and what they do. I like that 😱

MY biggest concern at the moment is I ordered that expensive HP and now I realize the power supply sucks at 350WATTS and 7600GT is just ok for now. I didn't consider those factors before hergieburbur THE WISE HEART mentioned it. I spent way too much mainly because I WANT TO PLAY, and I would have been fine if I hadn't of thrown in that 22" W LCD screen. I think I did that to REBEL against my Husbands being so non-understanding towards my gaiming late at night when everyone else is sleeping! :x My only recourse now would be to SUCK IT UP and enjoy for 2 years and up grade for big bucks later on or refuse it at the door and start over. I've overpowered the Processor at E6700 and underpoweered the Video card with 7600GT(can't get better with prebuilt HP) and the power supply SUCKS at 350Watts should have been 450W or better, for upgrading abilities. Hate to admit it but even DELL has better graphic card available!
For around $2000, the XPS 710 (the XPS machines are specifically designed for gaming) has a 750W power supply that will power any video card on the market...both now and in the foreseeable future.(or dual video cards...the 710 model has dual SLI compatible 16X PCI-E slots)

You could get one configured as follows:

Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E6600 (4MB L2 Cache,2.4GHz,1066 FSB)
Genuine Windows® XP Media Center 2005 Edition with re-installation CD
Express Upgrade to Windows Vista Home Premium from XP Media Center Edition
2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz - 2 DIMMs
250GB Serial ATA 3Gb/s Hard Drive (7200RPM) w/DataBurst Cache™
Dual Drives: 16x DVD-ROM Drive + 16x DVD+/-RW w/ dbl layer write capable
19 inch E197FP Analog Flat Panel
256MB nVidia GeForce 7900 GS
Integrated 7.1 Channel Audio

Total: $2,049 (before any applicable discounts)

...or XPS 410 (375W PSU w/dual 18amp rails.. which will accommodate some higher end cards)

Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E6600 (4MB L2 Cache,2.4GHz,1066 FSB)
Genuine Windows Vista™ Home Premium

256MB nVidia GeForce 7900 GS
Sound Blaster® X-Fi™ XtremeMusic (D) Sound Card

Sorry I didn't ask here first, but I really am sick of this already and my husband won't give me the 1,000 towards building myself soooo. I guess the CYBERPOWER would have been more cost effective and given me better choices in graphics card and power supply, but I have read a lot of negative comments about their using UPS/tech support/standing by the products and such.

If U want to talk the SEEKER OF TRUTH will listen 8)

Kat,

IMHO, a key thing to remember about HP (and most systems made by large corps) is that they design and sell their computer systems to last within the warranty period with no changes.

When the end user decides to upgrade the system, the parts that the design engineers selected based upon the power requirements of the system usually are not up to the task of powering the upgraded parts.

In my year of "phone tech support hell" for HP Pavilions I took many calls from people that would buy entry level computers, these fine patrons then wanted to make the computer better but never checked to see if the power supply (that barely had enough power to keep up with the unit in it's original configuration) would run the new hardware without exceeding the ratings of the power supply.

This is not to discourage you from your purchase of the HP system, you should be able to replace/upgrade the power supply (after you make sure the computer runs okay for a while) later as long as you remember to research what kind of power supply will work in the HP. Dells are known for using "special" power supplies, hopefully for you HP doesn't.

Blunc,

You are very right..

Back in the day (1992) I sold computers (part time outside of the Air Force) for a company called "Computer City".

Around Christmas time I had many many people come in for a specific Canon Computer! Yeah Canon actually released a computer at one time.

The canon had a 145W power supply when everyone else was using a 250W for the same configuration. Th infant mortality rate for those machines were horrible > 50%.

Turns out Consumer Reports was recommending it as "one of the best"/"editors choice"/... Whatever they call it.. People wanted that machine and I could not discourage them from it because of CR...

I could not figure out for the life of me WHY people had to have this machine. Then two weeks later a guy walks in and points to a machine in CR and says this is what they recommend and this is what I want.

It was the Canon Machine 8O 8O 8O

Real quality reporting from CR on that one (((((NOT))))

OH WISE HEART, I am anything but happy

Called the dips at HP today and explained to them I had been misinformed and no longer interested in the build. Told them they should not be in the business of selling a GAMING PC if they are going to overkill the Processor, Underkill the graphics card and under underkill the power supply. This is not the UPGRADABLE PC I had been told I was getting.

I was told they could not upgrade for me at any price, nor can they cancel my order, but would be more than happy to replace my order with a better laptop! GEEEEZZZZ. I said no thanks and told them how stupid this whole thing is that they couldn't cancel my build placed 1 day ago, yet could make me a laptop instead! Holy S_ _ _! The last 2 people I talked to were heavy on the Indian accents just beloved patriot DELL> I told her I would just refuse the items as they came, but she said no you must accept them and call for a pick up. SH return is free, but what if they pull a restocking fee I'll flip and this will take a long time so I am gonna look like a complete IDIOT when my husband sees the cr. card bill 8O

Oh well, isn't the first time I've screwed up

Now, Gotta decide what to do here. As much as I hate to admit it at leaste Dell actually offers a gaming PC prebuilt. Does anyone have first hand experience with CYBERPOWER?

OMG- I could have built 4 of these by now!!!!!

JonnyDough
I can get an 8800GTS now!

CONGRATS sounds really HAWT

Have to admit before I found U guys I was going by Consumer Reports too! 😳

People who don't know put their faith and trust in these sites, especially when buying high ticket items like home appliances,PC's and the like

I think i mentioned hp earlier or in other threads

1st they use asus mother boards and make a single change and thriple the price - i replace many hp mobos with $50 asus mobos when hp wanted $250

2nd they scam people by selling a bus speed and using slower memory etc. i know i got one for someone

call your local pc shop see if they know about gaming pc's negotiate a price and order the parts. you might find a small pc shop to help you

the best deal is a used pc - you can get a $1500 pc that's 6 months back in technology for half or less

all the savings you can repair or replace any issues and still have $500 left

Johnny,

She is right... If she refuses the order she may have to pay a restocking fee.

Kat,

Few things.. Get a hold of the first person you hear on the phone and ask for immediate escalation to "Second Level" This is usually the person that speaks "American 😉) (a little funny from another thread). Once you have second level explain to them your issue.

Ask if there is a restocking fee if the order is canceled.

Finally, call your credit card company and ask them if they can intervene.. You might be surprised.

HELP, I fell and I can't getty up!

hergieburbur
According to HPs return policy, she has 21 days to return for a FULL refund. She can refuse to accept the order and should get her money back.

I told them I would just refuse the order when it showed up and they said no you must accept it and call us to arrange a pick up. I'll talk to someone bigger and make sure. I think what really stinks is I have to wait for the damn thing and it won't get here til the end of the mo.

Will do all the above. I'm so pissed off at HP I don't care if they charge a restock fee (we'll yea I really do) but will not keep the crapola. BOY I can't believe how I let cute young TONY play me  He seemed sooo sweet and knowledgable and wanted to get the right system to suit my needs-HA 8O
Well I have some phone calls to make, yet still can't PLAY!
I could have built 10 by now!

OMG This is becoming a POLITICAL issue here. Where are our boundries anyway? You have to wonder am I safe? Did the government ever really take care of me? Why are Medical Insurance lawyers heartless and is Everything about $ in the end? YEA

After reading through this post I had to jump in now that is has been active for so long. KrazyKat you have to keep us posted on your PC purchase progress. I know this has been a process, but with the advice that you get on this forum your in good hands. Yea its very confusing and frustrating but look at it as a learning curve. Before this post you probally wouldn't have known that a 250W power supply wouldn't cut it if you wanted a high end video card. Now you do. That is just one example of the things you have learned on this post , or quest as it has become.

GOOD LUCK IN YOUR QUEST!!!!!!!!!!!

Every company's core contigency is STILL to make money, and if appearing to be good works, they'll be more than happy to do it.

I hear ya! and actually I am not sure what the others R refuring to when they say U R an ASS. I find your candid replies refreshing. Hey, at least I know where I stand with U, better than most people. Hi how are you? They should say, Hi, I don't really care how U R just tell me how will your state effect me!

As far as what U want to do with you're life I am all for it. Sounds like a solid plan. I was fortunate enough to teach art in Australia for 3 yrs. and traveled extensively throughout S.E.Asia. Later I traveled the US, Europe & more! Best times of my life. I stress travel to my kids all the time!

Your a smart young man and I wish you and your daughter all the best. HEALTH, now that's something you can't buy so cheerish your girl always. I know this first hand. Fighting the Doctors and Lawyers was one of the tuffest battles I ever had. End the end it was all about the $ as is everything. ETHICS? Sad but some things are a part of the past I'm afraid.

JonnyDough
I get tired of the off topic posts. I'm not here to make friends, I'm here to learn about computers and to share about computers. The personal stuff? I keep that personal.

OOOPPPPSS- guess we're getting off topic here too!

Called HP- 3 hours later and they just can't stop the ole production line blues. I have to call for a return pick up to get the free sh return at the end of the mo. and no restock fee. Boy do I feel STUPID

OK- I really see why people stick it to the MAN and build their own. Can U beleive the only way to solve my problem was to buy a better gaming performer a LAPTOP (they said it was easier to upgrade) OUT OF THIER MINDS!!!!suggested by 2nd HP broken Eng. person and the 3rd broken Eng. person suggested I buy a VOODOO I suggested he send me one ASAP for the same price and everyone could call it a day. I told all of them they should be assamed for calling this a GAMING PC and taking advatage of my TRUST in them. I also let them know thier compeitor DELL made a gaming PC for the same price. When I pointed out the dif. in power supply, video card they didn't have a clue what I was talking about. THESE people sell this stuff and they don't have a clue and I told them how dissappointed I was, but all I got was we'll it's too late it's already in production. I said-shit I've been calling for 2 days and certainly the first 3 calls would have caught it before PRODUCTION!!!! I would be better off driving to the factory (opps flying to the factory) and ripping it out of thier FINGERS!

It just makes ya love big business don't it? Now go yell at your husband for not letting you build your own. Honestly I can not believe you listened to him in the first place and I think this experience is kinda proving that you shouldn't have. What were his reasons anyway for not letting you DIY?

I have to say this has been a good learning experience and yea, abit EMPOWERING! Think I'll build one myself and husband can go off on his tirate, at least I don't let it get to me anymore-the hitting part has stopped! This has been a power struggle since day one, but I am a survivor of a bad childhood and I guess we tend to gravitate trowards what we know. I think this build is still wrapped up in CONTROL issues so I need to do this and do it right!

I'll show it to my son he knows all JAPANESE anime stuff.Speaking ov avatars I can't get mine to work! I use it on other sites, but won't work here!

I wonder if I should ask that as a precursor when someone asks for help, but I think I know what the answer would be. Sometimes, I can tell when they're bullshitting me though, but I don't call 'em on it.

Kat,

A letter or email to HP customer service may get you better results than the phone response lines, especially if you send a copy (and tell HP you are sending a copy) to the Better Business Bureau indicating you were missled by HP adverts and are not getting a reasonable response from HP when you tried to cancel your PC order.

This seems to be one of those times when "if you want a PC built right, ya gotta do it yourself".

I think I might bump up that HD to 320?

JONNYDOUGH- It was one dvd burner and one dvd-rom. :?: I don't really have to have dual optical drives. :?

I personally have and recommend the Silverstone TJ09, if you can fit it into your budget. Simple, clean, tool less and lacking all the flashy wiz bangs everyone seems to want to stuff into their cases.

Yeah, the huge Lian-Li's are way expensive. They are also HUGE. The TJ09 is also an ultra-expensive case coming in at no less than $250 for what I can find (BTW it happens to be my current dream case).
