Old machine into a Gaming computer (low budget)

I would like to get some input on what to do here. And sorry in advance that it is a long question, but I do need help on the whole set-up.

I've tried reading numerous forums and looking at some overclocking tips, but I just can't wrap my head around everything and specifically with the current set-up I'm working.

Find more memory and how to integrate it with the old?
How much to clock the processor and how to deal with the cooling?

Plus any other tips/insight you want to give.

The Objective:
I play Natural Selection 2, which a LUA based game and seems to demand greatly from the machine. So to put is short, I want more FPS


The processor has been clocked at 4GHz, only by adjusting the CPU ratio multiplier, but I fear that my Mugen is not powerful enough to keep it cool. So it is back to 3,6Ghz now.
Is there any reasonably priced water-cooling or something to go with this processor?
And is 4Ghz enough?

The memory is I have is few years old, but should be rather good. But I don't have enough of it.
Any recommendations on what I should buy? With a price around $80-130

e.g. CORSAIR DOMINATOR GT 8Gb (2x 4GB) 2000MHz, CL 9-10-9-27, 1.65V
or The new Adata Gaming?
or Should I just buy cheaper 1600Mhz and "down-clock" my current memory?


GTX660 is currently clocked at:
GPU 1163Mhz
Memory 6108Mhz
Voltage 0,975v
Power target 110%


Finally as an extra question, Do I need more power?

The 1090T is still a pretty perfectly capable CPU. If you want to you could update the BIOS on your motherboard and throw in an FX-6350 and overclock it, and that will provide a significant speed boost. Don't waste money on Dominator or Dominator Platinum - it's too expensive and doesn't do anything that normal RAM doesn't do.

You do not need ridiculous RAM. Honestly games do not use more than 4gb Anyway so adding more RAM will not improve gaming performance any substantial amount at all. 1600mhz RAM will perform the same as 2000mhz RAM in games.

550w is more than enough for this rig and any upgrades you plan.

Closed loop liquid cooling is mostly a fad and not better than good air cooling. I would get a good air cooler like the Noctua NH-D14.

Your CPU is simply 5 years old and showing its age. This game is very CPU bound and no real amount of overclocking will help. You really need a new CPU.

Thanks for the replys so far.

I feel that I don't want to update my processor just now.
I think I will buy a new cooler suggested to match the future clock of the current processor.

But could you recommend good memory that would be in 1600Mhz and still have the price right?
Also regarding to this is it ok just to combine that with the current one, or should I downclock the current memory to 1600Mhz?

If you add RAM it will all automatically clock to the same speed (slowest of then sets)
