kay... that's a server chip that's only 2 bucks... sounds like BS to me....

Anyway, your board won't take it.

The chip you need is in a pretty narrow range.

Athlon 64 or Athlon 64 Dual cores with model numbers of 3500 and up, certain Semprons and a few other chips should work. I have no interest in spending several hours making you a list.

I'll be happy to shoot down or approve any more you find.

Again though, an $800 chip on eBay for 2 bucks sounds very suspicious.

That's news to me. Opterons are server chips. i was under the impression that they NEVER work in consumer boards. I see what you mean and I'm quite surprised.

This does not change the fact that $2 from china sounds like a scam.

Thanks tiger

Yeah, no problem.

Something to also consider is the chip is pretty old. Those Opterons were $800, but that was when they came out in 2006 or 2007. An ebay search shows they are generally under $30 now: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=m570.l3201&_nkw=opteron+180&_sacat=0

At $2.50, it might be worth the few dollars to try and see. But, I think I would prefer a seller in my country rather than Hong Kong in the event it turns out to be a dud.
