If you felt alluded to... But I can think of a few people in this forum who are not zealots. JumpingJack and DaSickNinja come to mind. You would come to mind as well if you hadn't jumped into this feeding frenzy against a poster who asked a simple question.

Technology has this funny way of developing when it is time for it. Take a look at any other major break through, like the car, plane, or rocketry.
The choice between Mac and Windows as a GUI has more to do with taste then anything of substance. On a functional level they are the same.
If you had $10,000 to invest in MS or Apple 20 years ago and you know what it would be like today, you would have to be an idiot to invest in Apple. It is a little like the comparison between Kmart and Walmart. For some reason people like to vilify large corporations and successful business men.
I could not care less if apple, ms, or any other computer company went out of business. It will not spell the end of computer.

Well, at this point it's irrelevant. However, I didn't jump into the feeding frenzy of attacking the OP. I jumped in to this thread because of the BS that ensued from some people coming up with ridiculous claims supporting and denying Apple's extreme supremacy.
Everybody is entitled to their own opinions, but I get annoyed when they try to convert other people to their POV when their POV has no substance. I'm sure you get annoyed with people are like "Macs suck because I just don't like them". For the same reason I get annoyed with people when they are like "Macs rock just because I like them".
Know what I mean?

Yeah, but for the record, I don't own or use a Mac. I am thinking of getting one of their laptops. Hey, whatever happened to your friend with the dead hard drive? Did Apple fix it or does he have to get a lawyer? Because Apple has a legal obligation to replace the drive.

Apple has been providing good systems for years. So has MICROSOFT. I never said that Windows sucks, never once. I have used PC's for years with Windows, I even had a pirated version of Windows XP Professional Corporate Edition 6 months ahead of the actual release of XP to the general market. (How I cam upon it is my business.)
I just would like to see how Macs stack up against their PC cousins now that they finally have the same heart. Their souls are still different, and that can make all the difference. Windows may still be superior in many areas, but then again Mac may finally have caught up. I DON'T KNOW EITHER WAY. That is why I started this thread, just wondering.
PC fanboys started inflaming this discussion with insults. I haven't seen any Mac enthusiasts inflaming jack. They have simply responded with fact rather than rhetoric. I am new to the mac world with the iBook purchase that I made. (Very stable little computer, more so than my brother's gateway running XP.) I haven't thrown insults, just calling things for what they are based on facts, like Bill Gates being a thief. (Stealing code and GUI ideas from reputable companies, strong arming PC manufacturers in the 1970's and '80's like a mob Godfather of the OS world.) If he had held to standard business practices there would be more parity in the computing world, other companies would be very successful, such as Netscape and WinAmp. iTunes is a huge competitor to Windows Media Player, something I am sure Microsoft really doesn't like, but has been trying to emulate. People are just choosing iTunes over Windows Media. I am sure Microsoft will soon offer a version of Windows Media Player for Apple systems in order to compete with iTunes in sales of digital media. Give it time, it will happen, it always does. They may offer lower prices just to force iTunes out of business.
All I want is to see if OS X is now able to compete with Windows in various areas such as frame rates, video encode time, audio encode decode times, etc. These comparisons can be done NOW, without worry about coding problems regarding benchmarking software such as 3dMark, PCMark, Sisoft, whatever. This of course would be a basic look, but a preliminary peek as well to what is coming down the road in both areas. (Windows and OS X.)

But I don't know what happened with friends' Mac (he's not one of my closest friends so I don't see him very often). He hasn't complained about it since so maybe Apple did the right thing and replaced it.
Anyway, I'm glad we can all get along.
I guess I get to find out now how good the built in security of Mac OSX is now. The FBI raided my bosses business today, (I am an EMT,) for Medicare fraud. Since I carry my laptop with me to work to search the web during breaks, down time, it was there when we were raided. Believe me, the FBI doesn't play games when they are issuing a search warrant. (Very loud, very fast, like Rainbow 6, I swear to God.)

So I wish the FBI luck. (I have nothing to hide, but this will be a good test of Apple security.)

128bit is easily broken, not with brute force, but with pattern recognition. I doubt it would take the FBI more then a few hours to break into it (only cause you use a strong password). There are quite a few free programs out there that will crack 128bit encryption in hours, ususaly for WEP. At my work, we use 512bit encryption and higher on all our machines to prevent data loss when something gets stolen.

Once they decrypt your hard drive, which they will without trouble I assure you, they will see your hard drive as normal and all data intact. If they feel there is information on your laptop that is worth the time and money to retreive, they will.
With the programs I have at work, I can see data that has been reformated over, even using different file formats. I can read data in unpartitioned hdd space, and recover most any deleted file. Its all a mater of time.

Most encryption cracking programs do not rely on brute force so those numbers are meaningless. You dont need to go though every possibility to break 128bit encryption, or any encryption for that mater. There are patterns, dictionary, and countless other methods that reduce the 150 trillion years to 2 hours.

wow reading your posts the term gullibility comes to mind. even my messenegr isnt allowed to go into some country because of the bit encryption is supports but wow your fooling your self if they are going to take long to crack it.
As far as the mac users providing proof and not fiction i guess seeing what you want to see comes to mind there. in fact no matter what MS made if it looked remotly like MAC os which any GUI of any OS so far that uses a windows style system does it will be labeled stolen. Serioulsy people that look at something that looks like something else have to get over thier omg they stole it crap. Even if they stole the ugly ass mac os gui who really f'in cares. Some people get thier pantys in a bunch over the most stupid crap ever.
Infact if we look at it so narrowly as that mac has also ripped people off that no widgets or whatever bar? well thats been in windows xp for a long time now from 3rd party people. I'm a long time windows user and I do prefer it. Mainly because thats the OS I am most proficient in. If something quits working, or I break it, I can fiddle around a bit and fix it. And as far as gaming is concerned, I choose the pc every time.

It worked fine and did what I asked of it. But I wasn't blown away. Nothing earthshattering there. There would have to be some huge advantage for me to change ponies and I'm not seeing that.

If people feel better when they spend 30% more for their computer because of a pretty case design rather than the hardware inside, I say go ahead and waste money on that sense of self esteem. I'll build my own pc, save a ton of cash, and laugh all the way to the bank. Apple products are aimed at a niche/designer market at this point. I'm not a "pay twice as much for a brand name" type guy. I don't buy Dell, Gateway, or the like either. I can build the pc I want with the parts I choose. I suspect most everyone here does the same.
Marketing and slick commercials are a non issue for me. Before the Mac/Pc commercials there were the "Dude you got a Dell" commercials. My response is to roll my eyes and go on with my day.

Every computer is invulnurable to viruses, right up until you put a driver, an OS and software on it. The OS security debate is moot. If a hacker decides to write a killer virus there is no stopping him regardless of the OS you use. The only difference would be that a larger number of Mac users would be affected because many of them have been led to believe the OS is secure, and most windows users have learned from their past mistakes.

You know the mac is quite insecure. They have identified many flaws inside the OS, but not to worry, since there are only 3 people who use a mac, nobody would waste their time exploiting the mac.
