One ssd only works in ide MODE?

Corsair force 3 series 120gb only works when i boot in in IDE mode, I get a blue screen anytime i try to do it in AHCI mode... However just got an OCZ vertex 3 a few weeks ago (also 120gb) and it boots up and runs great in AHCI mode.

Where did i go wrong? I assume the first time i booted it i forgot to change the config and now the corsair f3 does not want to run in ahci which makes it a pain to switch and is killing my bench marks...

Any ideas? thanks.

Please say that when you installo the OS on a SSD - ALL other HDDs were disconnected!!!

If both SSDs were attached and you installed windows 7 on the New SSD it would have overwritten some of the Boot records (that little 100 mb Partition), which could cause this.
Simple to check, got my computer, Rt click, select manage, then on left side, select Disk management. BOTH SSDs should have two partitions: one small 100 mb partition - the "System Partition" and the remainder of the Drive should be partitioned for your OS.

Just info on switching IDE -> AHCI
To resolve this issue yourself, enable the AHCI driver in the registry before you change the SATA mode of the boot drive. To do this, follow these steps:
1.Exit all Windows-based programs.
2.Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
3.If you receive the User Account Control dialog box, click Continue.
4.Locate and then click one of the following registry subkeys:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Msahci
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\IastorV
5.In the right pane, right-click Start in the Name column, and then click Modify.
6.In the Value data box, type 0, and then click OK.
7.On the File menu, click Exit to close Registry Editor.
8. Reboot to bios and change to ahci.

Did you install the Windows OS on ssd before turn on the AHCI? If you want to install Windows OS on ssd and use the AHCI mode, you'd better turn on the AHCI before install the Windows OS, if that you will get the blue screen when you turn on AHCI after install Windows OS.

In your situation you could do what "RetiredChief" suggested to turn on AHCI when you are log in IDE mode. BTW, you mentioned your CPU is AMD then you need to AMD offical web site to download a driver which could help you turn on the "NCQ" under the AHCI mode. You'd better download the latest driver of your mortherbord and the SSD.

Okay so i just checked and both drives have the 100mb partition you speak of.

Also i dont think i disconnected my hdd... is that really bad?

So i should just follow those steps to switch the corsair from ide to ahci?

quesionboy was not refering to a "CPU" driver, but to The Chipset driver for the HDD - My Minds blank right about now, but it is whats called the southbridge or Northbridge I Think.

Sorry to repy you too late, the "NCQ" is the core parts of the AHCI, this is the basic technology to improve the speed of the read/write. However, to Intel CPU this mode is turned on automatic when you select "ahci" mode, but to AMD CPU this tech need be tunred on manually.
