Seems like every time I use a game with open gl, my comp crashes within a few minutes. I just got my hands on a copy of HL:Opposing force (I know, A bit late here)and when I run it on OpenGl settings, well it crashes too. I am using the latest Detoator drivers, and no OC'ing on the card.

Setup:
Abit KG7 w/ AXP 1800
400w antec psu
generic sound

I can run other games (RTCW, C&C renegade, Alice, B&W, Army ops) with no problems for hours. Any ideas?

I also have this problem with Trainz.. but im not sure if thats Open GL

Hi, I've got the same problem. Every time i run a 3D game, my PC stops responding after few minutes of playing. I have AMD Duron 950, 256MB Ram DDR, GeForce2 MX 400, WinXP Pro, Detonator XP and DirectX 8.1.
Does anyone know where the problem is?

Download the latest version of DirectX 8.1. This is a problem just fixed 10 days ago where a bug in the DirectX 8.1 code would cause AMD systems running WinXP to crash. All reports seem to indicate that this is a a DirectX problem and not AMD or WinXP.

Get it here.

As for the problem with OpenGL, can't help you. Try downloading the latest Detonators, reducing AGP aperture size to 32MB, disabling fast writes, and disabling all BIOS shadowing/caching.

Hmm, all that is on on my system, xept the agp apperature.. I have mine set to 128

and thanx for the link, I was looking all over microsoft's site for the actual file download

I installed the DX patch, but it didn't help. It still freezes. 🙁( Could it be caused by overheated graphic card? It's so hot I can't keep my finger on it for 5 seconds.

It could be overheating. To test this out, underclock your core and memory as far as they will go. If the problem disappears then it probably is overheating.

The latest bios I have 2 1 bhind Abit's latest, and it just adjust the default processor from a 1100 xp to a 1400 xp.

I don't know how to do that. Never have set up my card. I allways have it on default. Plz describe where I can set up that.

How do i find out? In bios? Temperature of my CPU is 125*F, my HDD is even more hotter and I'm better not touching the GeForce. It seems my PC's gone burn any minute. Damn, I don't know what to do with it 🙁

Hmm, I think that' about 51 C? Seems a little hot but shouldn't cause too many problems.

The rating of the power supply should be written on it somewhere, open up your case and have a look, eg. 230 W, 300 W, 350 W, etc...

There is MAX 300W. Could the overheating be caused by using mainboard I bought in Europe? The GeForce2 is also europien.

Here are the things I'd pay attention to. Use process of elimination if you can.

1. Card was bought in Europe, might be physically different from ones in the US, might not.
2. Your power supply is kind of dinky. Consider getting a better PSU. Also look at the specs on your PSU. What amps does it provide on each voltage rail?
3. Check your voltages using motherboard monitor. Get it at <A HREF="http://mbm.livewiredev.com" target="_new">http://mbm.livewiredev.com</A>. Make sure they aren't too low, otherwise it signals to you that your components are starving for more power.
4. Follow the instructions I gave you in this post to underclock your video card: <A HREF="http://forumz.tomshardware.com/hardware/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=652773#652773" target="_new">"I think my graphics card is overheating!"</A>
5. Go into your BIOS when your computer starts. Usually this is accomplished by pressing delete when your computer is first booting up. Make sure your RAM is set to "use SPD" and under advanced settings look for these options and set them as follows:

AGP pull up strength: disabled
AGP aperture size: 32MB
AGP fast writes: disabled

Under PCI or chipset settings there should be options for Video/System BIOS cacheing and memory shadowing. Make sure these are all disabled.
6. More when I can think of them. Try these first, I believe there are more things to try if these don't work.

Just a passing note,

If everything in your computer is that hot, Spend $7 and install a 2nd case fan. It should improve your CPU and MB temperatures by 5 to 10 degrees C, along with an improvement for all the other components. I always install a second case fan in all the computers I build, its the cheapest and, in my opinion, the most stabilizing component you can add.

I once thought I had made a mistake and that I was wrong; I was wrong, I was Right!!
