To answer one of the questions you've asked, Wolfgang, I'm one person who doesn't give a crap about 'the social' aspect of a potential Xbox Live interface for Windows PCs. Until a day comes where Games for Windows Live and Xbox Live players can actually play games with/against each other, that social aspect is already answered by numerous other programs anyway; including but not limited to, Xfire, Steam, Comrade, any messenger service (Skype, AIM, MSN, Yahoo), and even Facebook. If Microsoft were to remove the boundary dividing Xbox and PC gamers, then the social aspect of Xbox Live Metro could finally provide that 'must have' feature you seek. Otherwise, it's just another means to send Xbox buddies a message while not at your Xbox, which is already answered by many other software solutions for various devices.

Would be nice to be able to play with my xboxlive friends while on my PC so that I can get more use out of my xboxlive subscription, but like the others are saying, it's more important to get the xbox exclusives on the PC as well, and not just as shitty ports.

You guys dont understand how consoles work versus PC's. Consoles are awful closed systems. They are just as terrible as apple products. Aka, no mods in your games, no customized UI mods, no custom utilities or tools, or editors. Content takes forever to show up, patches take forever too (monday night combat patched in 2 days on pc, took 2 months on xbox). Imagine minecraft without mods, i wouldnt play it. Same with most games i have. I wouldnt have bought HL2 again if not for the fact i could use the cinematic mod. And then there's the issue of control schemes, and a tons and tons of other custom stuff that is only available on pc. Consoles tell you what you can get, what you can do with it and when you can do it. Want to upgrade your graphics well you cant buy a new card for that 360, you are stuck with that crap old time tech, you upgrade when they say you can. The simple fact is, with consoles they own you and run your gaming life. Sorry, but no thanks. My xbox rarely gets played, and anytime i can get it on pc i always do.

yeah , the metro can be turned off, but, I really don't think many people will turn it of, I've been on Win 8 since it came out, sitting time on win 8 must be barely 10hrs though. And it's already growing on me. I already have my imagination running as to what would I like to see on the Metro when it just stands there, a fully customizable interface would be great, even if I don't have a touch screen, the mouse is perfectly fine.
Like for the news section, I like the idea where I have all the Toms, Techs and BBC stuff just out on the screen all in one glance.....

And when I want to work, I have the tile of the desktop with stuff that is already left halfway through to continue with.....
And the best part of all this is the optimization that they have come up with, the system is really fast and literally takes no load.
Booting from a restart is like 5 to 7 seconds, I couldn't expect that with Vista or Win 7.....

But seriously, I don't see the comparison. I can't understand why the 2 are being compared in the first place, a Xbox is a Xbos and an OS for a PC is an OS.The one thing that can be said in this case is, maybe MS will allow Xbox games to be played on it's new OS without the need of a Virtual engine by a 3rd Firm. Thats all, and to please it's Xbox customers who may not be that PC savvy, it's a plus point to have the Metro UI. For the PC Clan, they have the options to customize the OS according to what they want it to look and feel like right?
SO really no point in this sort of a Comparison, it's a Plus Plus, for MS. They've once again hit the right spot after all the misses, I'd say, It was high time.

[citation][nom]malphas[/nom]It's been confirmed from day one it's intended for desktops as well as tablets/laptops. The Metro UI can be disabled.[/citation]
Source?? I haven't read any statements from Microsoft Windows 8 intends on being a replacement for Win 7 on non-touch screen desktops.

It would be nice if those morons down rating my question would have answered it....but that would have required more effort than their fat fingers can handle.....

I feel M$ is making all their OS uniform.. because W8 supports mobile platforms as well.. and it is similar to WP7.. so i wonder whether M$ is trying to make all their OSes uniform.. so on this assumption.. I feel that M$ will give support to Xbox live on W8 too.. because Xbox live is supported in WP7..

Microsoft wants very badly to have Win8 considered the OS "that just works". They want everyone to feel confident in their ability to do what they want with the OS. If you can have those non-computer users adopt Win 8 tablets and smartphones, and then see that using a Win 8 laptop, or a Win 8 desktop is just as easy, then its a win.

Ultimately, wouldn't you want maximum compatibility and interoperability between all of your techno toys and business gadgets? Whether true or not, whether it really works or not, this is clearly the image Microsoft is shooting for.

I don't see a problem with incorporating xbox live into the OS. It just means you can have one account for all your games. It'd bring greater connectivity too.

Btw, I swear there is a troll rating all comments down here...

Make windows 8 compatible for xbox360 games. Integrate Origin and Steam into Metro along with Windows Marketplace.

1st comment will help xbox users come over to pc and 2nd comment to integrate all our shopping needs into 1, especially when we have to look at each to see which game our friend is playing.

Windows 7 works very well, and I can see why Microsoft would like to offer that experience to tablets, but it's not possible without a touch interface. The tablet is going to get faster, and with reasonable prices, I think by the end of Q4 2012 tablet sales will be off the charts. It's more than possible that DX11 will be possible on a tablet, but with lagging DX 11 software developement, Microsoft does not need to worry about DX 12 at this time. I see no reason so far to move on to Windows 8.

I think that Microsoft should consider Steam as a model on how to intergrate their xbox base with their PC base.

[citation][nom]ProDigit10[/nom]in desktop-mode you're forced with a win7/8/vista theme!I prefer the classic looks of win 98/2k/ME![/citation]
Then just use Windows 98 / ME / 2000 then.

Just put Win7 into "classic" mode... man, its butt ugly... soooo 1995. It offers no functional or performance benefits over Window7 Aero.

Metro is the future of MS-OS, because things are tipping in such a way that WHY bother with Windows OS at all? If Win8 along with Metro allows PC users to play future Xbox games, run same Metro apps on tablets as on desktop - then they'd have pull off an amazing trick. Their goal is to out-do Apple with a good interface... as shown with WP7 which is great, its not enough to go against Apple. And they don't want to do what Google does, which is have 2-4 different OS types for their tablets.

This is about going forward... and hopefully, killing off the Win32.api all together... And Metro is the first step to KILLING Windows.

[citation][nom]malphas[/nom]Everyone said the exact same things about XP. Microsoft can't afford to just stand still for the sake of people that are afraid of change.[/citation]

Nobody said that about XP. They were either hopping up and down in anticipation of their Windows ME replacement, or quietly hoping XP would fix the annoying bugs of Windows 2000. Personally, I was hoping to skip XP and go to Linux, but did not quite get everything to work on the switch, so XP it was.

I have no interest in having a touchscreen on my PC. I don't want greasy fingerprints all over it.

I have no interest in the metro interface for my desktop PC. I like having multiple windows open.

I do think Metro will be nice for my HTPC, as it seems like a better 10-foot interface. Again though, I have no interest in touchscreen there.
