I understand your point, but in today's context, I would rather get a S939 based system even if I would loose some performance. Because the S939 platform will probably offer a better upgrading opportunity. Socket 754 is not dead, but AMD will not put to the market anything faster for if even if it would be possible.
6 months ago S754 was the best budget AMD64 platform, but with the new S9393 3000+, this platform is now quite affordable.
NOTE : I do prefer nForce3 chipset too, but I would not say that VIA chipset is not good for non-hardcore users.
