Opteron same price as 3200

The Opreton 140,142 and 144 processors and motherboards are available at last here in the uk. And much to my surprise, the 144, 1.8ghz cpu is the same price as the 3200 barton. This indicates that when the A64 arrives, it will be priced sensibly, possibly with the 2ghz at about £350 or lower.

Wait. Let me get this straight. The <b>1.8 GHz</b>Opteron is priced at about the same as the <b>2.2 GHz</b>Athlon, and this is supposed to indicate that when the A64 comes out it will be priced sensibly?

Maybe you're right that it will be priced sensibly, but I'm sure not seeing how this is any indication that it will be. Maybe you and I have different interpretations of the word 'sensibly'?

I.E its not gonna cost the same stupid ammount as when the 3200 came out, £400! The opteron is more expensive to make at the moment isnt it? Look at the athlon mp, its always been about 50% higher price compared to the xp. And its not fair to compare the opteron and the xp on its mhz rating alone.

Dabs was able to get them virtually as soon as they came out,

opteron should hopefully be priced much higher than A64 as it is for workstations which normaly commands a much higher price.

Yeah I saw that too...hopefully and most probably it means that the Athlon 64 will be priced nicely when it arrives.
