Hello,

I've been dong quite a reading around on the subjest of an optical mouse connection optins and I steel can't figure it out. My mouse is Logitech MX300 and it has an USB-PS2 adapter with it. Can some put it plain and simple to me:
Are the latest generation of optical mouse better off/more precise using the PS2 port or via USB?

Best Regards

Use USB port if you still got them spare, the PS/2-USB convertor sometimes gives you trouble e.g. pointer out of control and running everyway on your desktop; or never move a tiny bit.

You never know how stupid you are until you have done something stupid enough for you to realize it.

So USB it is... Are there any texts/reviews on the web on this issue?
This is what Stéphane Kauffmann said in this article:
"While we are on the subject, compared to PS2, USB is a step backward for the mouse, because PS2 can handle twice as many exchanges per second. That said, quite frankly, and even though the sticklers will criticize, the speed of exchange in USB is quite adequate for a mouse."

This is the case where the mouse is a true PS/2 mouse. If you are using PS/2-USB convertor then your mouse is nothing than a USB, so the exchange rate is the same. Unless your mouse is PS/2 and you use a PS/2-USB convertor to plug it into USB then it's not recommended.

Optical mice are better off on the USB port as its sampling rate is higher 100 ro 120Hz from memory. A PS2 port is only 50 or 60Hz, unless you tweak it, so it can give jerky movement in fast paced 3d shootemup games.

I generally suggest people avoid adaptors whenever possible...

If the mouse is a native USB device, plug it into the USB.
If it's a native PS2 device, stick it in the mouse port.

Trust me... adaptors are just one more thing to wrong.

--->It ain't better if it don't work<---

allthough what would be funny is USB -> PS2 -> fat PS2 -> rectangular serial.
imagine the conflicts with that lol.
