Optical Zoom

I am looking to purchase a video camera for my husband. We currenlty have a Sony but it only gets up to 10X optical zoom, and the digital zoom quality is not very good. He is a hunter and mostly uses the camera out in the woods to shoot footage of deer. Do you have any recommendations?
