Hello,

i would like to know if that software is also free.

Solution
Yes they say that on the page. I feel like a dork not realizing that. PCMAC92, what should their connection speed be?

That seems like basic DSL speed to me and the 0.86 UP is where you're having issues with ANY sort of screensharing.
recap:
down speed: 8.46
up speed: 0.82

Can you find out if it's supposed to be faster from the service provider? I see three possibilities:
1 - there is no problem, this is the speed they pay for
2 - there is a problem on the service provider side
3 - there is a problem on the pc/router/home wiring side

Well I guess there is the 4th which is a problem on both sides :) But I'd start with what they should have and that answer should come from the service provider.

Let's define the goal to get to while...
Let's see what you're getting now so we can compare - run this and tell us your up and down speed:

www.speedtest.net

From there, the first stuff to do is run malwarebytes - I recommend installing it from www.ninite.com because it's easier to get it from there than go through the regular more confusing process directly from malwarebytes.

The biggest culprit for a slow connection is malware and adware, and malwarebytes is the standard for cleanup.

So you have an operating system that cost a quadzillion $ to develop by 100's of people over 2 years or so, but you want to know if somebody spent hours and hours of the're free time to develop a program that would make your internet run faster for free? Just so we are clear, I wish for no confusion over what you are asking. .

Not helpful - there are TONS of ads that are vaporware that *promise* to speed up your internet connection. This fella just wants to know if there's the real deal. There is software out there like that that is not adware/malware/vaporware, setting your MTU to the optimized amount and such, as well as changing other settings in your advanced tab in your network card properties, but I think this guy is going to benefit more from malwarebytes than all that jazz.

I understand that entirely, and years ago I was Taken in enough by this 'vapour ware' as you call it to ask questions. The answers I got were to think clearly and reasonably about what I was asking. The poster has not indicated that line speed has dropped, or lags , merely that he wants free software to speed his internet up.
I did clearly ask him to clarify if that was what he was asking. I cant tell him he is being sold a pup unless I see he has a sack, can I?

'Being sold a pup' (expression) goes back to the early times of Market towns, where idiots could be caught out buying a piglet to fatten and breed. They would be shown the litter, and the chosen piglet being forced into a sack. Upon arriving home and opening the sack, they would find a wriggling runt puppy with its snout tied up.
Worthless . .

I have never heard that expression and appreciate you sharing the explanation :) I am 'merican.

Now if the original poster would speak up with his results or updates :)

Sorry. bigwoofer is right about what i wanted to know because i did lot of research for nearly 2 hours. so yes i wanted to know or learn about if there is internet software that is only basic that can speed up your internet... that i mean as software free. no price. just basic.. well, sorry if you were mad at me for asking such question.. i just wanted to understand or learn something from these guys who knows about stuff...

my down speed: 8.46
my up speed: 0.82

the reason why i wanted to know if there is software that can improve my internet.. its because of splashtop i am using.. i was just using it to fix someone's laptop of my relative and they are living in a city while i am living in small town(that mean we are not in the same house or network).. that should give you the idea how i am using splashtop.. if not.. look it up.. you will understand.

The tweaks listed at that link are not appropriate for Vista, 7, or 8. The TCP/IP stack in those OS's does a very good job of optimizing itself dynamically. Trying to tune them manually never ends well.

Let's define the goal to get to while we're at it. Join.me doesn't state required connection speed http://help.join.me/knowledgebase/articles/245111-system-requirements

Sadly Splashtop doesn't define system requirements as far as connection speed:
http://support-remote.splashtop.com/entries/266026-System-requirements

But gotomeeting does and they state it needs at least 700 Kpbs for screen AND voice which your requirements meet. Voice takes less than Screen, http://support.citrixonline.com/GoToMeeting/all_files/GTM010003

Pandora does audio only and requires at least 150 kpbs on the down side
http://help.pandora.com/customer/portal/articles/166391-minimum-specifications-to-run-pandora

0.86Mbps is 860 kpbs so you should be good on speed - help me out here anyone?

Bigwoofer,

sorry i couldn't find the "quote" to quote your post. however i did check out your link that is
http://www.dslreports.com/tweaks
but it seemed to not giving me any information then i noticed it was for VISTA.. i can't find Windows 8.1... could it be outdated??

and i also can't find tweak test to run some test on my computer and improve the internet... i was looking for it..

Hi there! I know this is March 2014 and this might come way later after you've already fixed your issue, but I was just wanting, for anyone else that may come across this thread to throw my 2 cents into the ring (for what it's worth, and it might not be that much! LOL!)

I recently came across this program called Internet Speed Booster 2 that works with Windows 7 and 8/8.1.

I was having connection issues with my desktop computer with getting my full 30Mpbs cable internet speed even when connecting directly to the EMTA with an Ethernet cord.

My laptop, however, did not suffer any speed loss, on the same network, so when I came to Burger King's public WIFI just now and tried to log in, I did a speed test and found the following results:

Down: 0.86
Up: 1.45

So I used the Internet Speed Booster 2 (you can get it at http://apps.microsoft.com/windows/en-us/app/internet-speed-booster-2/3407e7e6-a126-4f24-bfb8-4ec8b8c69f15 ) and its free. It monitored my current speeds and then I clicked BOOST, and then it did its thing.

And then I tested the connection again to get the following results:

Down: 0.95
Up: 1.65

So that leads me to believe that speed is capped on a public WIFI, which I think is bogus.

But when I used it on my HOME network, my desktop speeds went from 8.8D/12.4U back to 37.4D/14.4U just like my laptop was reporting....and my desktop runs Windows 7.

Hope this helps. Sorry I lack the brevity gene. LOL!

OH i will check this software you mentioned.. well i will check it out and let you know how that goes. I have been waiting forever to get a better answer from someone.. on this topic.. sigh... SO here i go.
