I have an Asus X53u laptop
Processor: AMD Brazos Dual Core C60
Memory: 4Gb
HDD: 320 GB
OS: Win 7 Premium
Graphics: Radeon HD 6290

what should be ideal temps under the following conditions

1. Idle
2. browsing with multiple windows
3. Using word & excel
4. Playing a movie

also how many fans does this laptop have?

Solution
unless someone has your exact labtop I don't think your going to get an answer. so ill give you what I think

asuuming room temp of 70-75 range (if room is warmer or cooler temps will move accordingly)

1. idle of around 90-110F
2. web 108-125f
3 word excel 108-125F
4. hd movie 120-130F
5 gaming 150-170F

these would should be the upper limits you should see. for any computer though the cooler the better for its life.

these are ranges that I have ... for every reading it is usually the upper limit that you have indicated

I want to know if this temperature range is normal for laptops? ... or should i be worried ... and will a laptop cooler make any difference?

in my case a cpu cooler helped when gaming and movie end some(around 5 to 6 degrees)but didn't notice much difference in idle end. laptops just run warmer due to smaller heat sinks. the man reason I got a cooler was so I didn't burn my lap when gaming with my laptop on my lap.

do make sure your heat sink is clear of dust every so often(blow it out or use a can of compressed air to do it if its bad.) also don't know the age of your system but after two years I took mine apart as my temps where higher then new and redid the thermal paste. not easy to do like a desktop but I knew my temps where alot higher then normal when it was new. (I had idle temps of 140 and that was with cpu at lowest freq at idle, redid paste and it was back down under 100F again at idle)

k thanks for the help... i would gv it to the asus care centre for any service/clean up/maintenance etc
