I know spec sheets aren't always correct. I have a vostro 3550 laptop that says its max is 8gb, that I have running 16 gb(and windows 11) My question is the Optiplex 5440 MT sheet says it can only go to 16gb (for some reason I saw one for the SFF that said 32 gb) Can the 5440 take 32gb or has anyone tried?

ypeDDR3L
Speed1600 MHz
ConnectorsFour UDIMM slots
Memory module capacity4 GB and 8 GB
Minimum memory4 GB
Maximum memory16 GB
  • NOTE: Each UDIMM slot supports a minimum of 4 GB and a maximum of 8 GB.

both towers should support 32 im assuming this is a typo

since it even says minimum of 4gb and maximum per slot
thanks. That being on the Dell site, and it being a typo, had me wondering why the MT would go to less than the SFF

I have just purchased that 5040 mt on ebay for real cheap, just to piddle with. I enjoy upping memory, drives and whatever I can. Plus I have some old parts and Gpus I like to throw in them to see what kind of performance I can get out of cheap old computers. And it leaves me something to use if my main computer had something fail in it, while I wait for a part. Living in a very rural area has its drawbacks, but on the good side it helps give me a hobby lol.

the only draw back from old parts is legacy bios issues with gpu support some gpus are backwards compatible alot of the new gpus need the uefi bios

Just to close this out. Yes their sheet is wrong, and it does go to 32GB.
At 1st I didn't get anything with its built in graphics. I'm not sure why, but when I put in an old gtx 645 from another computer I had beside it, it booted and had a message about the memory changing along with 3 options. I picked go into bios and it showed the 32, but I didn't have any option to change it even if I had wanted to, only to exit, so I did, and now it boots fine.
