Hi! i got a brand new optiplex 990 (mid tower case)

So, i want to upgrade my CPU to i5 8400, PSU (currently its 260W) to 500W, And GPU to 1050Ti.
I seen so much people saying you cant upgrade the cpu in optiplex 990 because it will not support it. So again, what should i do for upgrading CPU?

Solution
Generally speaking, it's the motherboard in OEMs that can prevent upgrading but since you cannot use an i5 8400 and a 2011/2012 motherboard for Sandy Bridge/Ivy Bridge chips, you'd be replacing the motherboard anyway.

If you want to run an 8400, you'll need a new motherboard, the CPU (obviously), and DDR4 RAM.

Then, whats the best cpu for optiplex 990 MT for gaming and rendering?

I seen so much people using i7-2600K with this motherboard. If i5-8400 is not possible, then i7-2600K is possible right?

It really depends here. if you want to go that route, I'll have to agree with the above about returning it and just building. Because by that point, you'll have none of the original parts left and will need a new Windows license!
