So i ordered a:

Corsair Force Series 3 120GB SATA 6Gbs Solid State Drive: Link

I am using a GA-EX58-UD3R which is quite an old board now i believe and only has SATA 2 ports. Hence i also bought:

Startech 2-Port SATA III 6Gbps PCI-Express Controller Card: Link

So, i believe i need to remove my current HDD, install the controller card and connect it to the SSD then go through the motions and install Windows 7 fresh. My main query comes when i reinstall my curret HDD which will still have the OS files on it. Can i simply delete the windows folder on this drive since i will be using it purely for storage or is there some way to 'uninstall' them as you would a typical program?

Sorry if this is a silly question, i tried searching for an answer but i didn't find one.

You can delete the windows folder and use it as a storage drive (you may also want to delete "program files"). Of course, there will still be space taken up by random files from programs and windows - so the best course would be to copy the data off of it and re-format, but this isn't truly necessary just recommended.

One note of caution - make sure you move all of the files you want out of the MyDocs/MyPics/Desktop/etc folders (anything that is in the users folder of your current Windows install). Windows is picky on security of files sometimes - you may get a permissions error when you try to access these private folders from the new install.

I would backup you documents of the HHD. Then do a reformat of the HHD. Then copy your backedup doc back to the now new and clean HHD.
