Original patcher doesn't work anymore

My hard drive croaked, so I bought a new one and had to start over
from scratch. I installed from the original 1999 CD and when I ran the
game the first time, I was a bit suprised to find that the patcher
simply wouldn't work. I thought it would at least be able to download
an updated patcher and proceed from there.

I was able to get an updated patcher from the web, but I thought it was
interesting to note that if your only resource is an original CD, you
cannot play the game.

If you can't connect to the internet to aquire a new patcher from the EQLive
site, then the old patcher not working really isn't a concern.

Well, yes, of course.

I was simply commenting on the fact that if one installs and runs the game
from the original 1999 CD, it won't work.

Sure, you can get a new patcher off the Internet, but you have to know
where to find it, and more than that, you have to know to look for a new
patcher in the first place.

Well, if I started having problems such as that, I'd go check their
website to see if there is any info about correcting the problem, where,
I would hope, it will direct you to download a new patcher, and tell you
how to do so. Of course, knowing SoE, that information is probably not
readily available. :b

YOU would, yes. I would too. But there are still lots of people asking
tech support somewhere, "how do I download the internet?"

And no, it's not simple to find the patcher. After looking for about a
minute I still haven't found it, and I'm USED to the poorly designed
website. I honestly pity anyone who is of the average computer skill that
needs to find it.

The information is probably in the patch notes. 🙂

Which are actually not too hard to find on their site, unlike the patcher
itself.

Damn, Dan, and there's a full minute of your life you'll never get
back!
