Hi guys,

I put a post up on here a couple of days ago for my 1st build, however, I forgot to ask a question...

How can I install Windows 8.1 onto my fresh system via .exe file (DVD copy not available as it is student version)

Solution
You will have to access the bios on the computer.

On most boards it will not work to just change the usb to be the first boot device.
What you have to do is go to the hard drive group and select the usb drive, then make sure the hard drive group is first in the boot list. Then you will need to remember once windows has installed to change this back to your boot drive.
You can't. You must obtain a copy of the OS as an image, downloaded to a flash drive or burned to a disk. You will also need a valid license serial code that you will pay for. You will then install and activate the OS form whatever removable media you have created. In short the OS does not install the same way common programs and software do. You can buy the OS from Microsoft or through many software sellers.

As stated, you cant install an exe file because that is not bootable.

You need to get a legitimate iso disc image and then you can use nero, Roxio, ashampoo (free) to burn it to a dvd disc; or you could use the win 7 usb dvd tool to make a bootable usb drive with the iso image (you will need at least an 8gb flash drive for that).
