This is almost certainly a gimmick. The magic happens in the software, not the hardware. You could have $5 chinkphones or a pair of HD800s, but the results will be the same if the audio was not recorded properly, or (in the case of a video game) if the software wasn't designed to create a 3D sound experience.

All the currently available software uses generic algorithms, so how good it is depends how similar you are to the dummy head used. OSSIC is trying to use hardware and software to create a more personalized experience.
