Hi everyone,

I am currently running an 8700k paired with an RTX 3080. With the launch of 12th gen intel chips I have been looking at upgrading my PC. My current issue is I am so out of the loop on what the current market is like for CPUs. I have been looking at the 12700k as the chip that I should go with, I plan on sticking with DDR4 due to cost/inventory available. I game at 1440p and play RTS, shooters, and flight sims.

Is the equivalent AMD chips the way to go at the moment, or is Alder Lake the king at the moment?

Solution
is Alder Lake the king at the moment?
at the moment definitely.
we'll see what AMD's next line has to offer.

if you're strictly gaming i would be looking more at the i5-12600K, offers wonderful single-core performance for less $.
but if you use more multi-core intensive software, or even games that make use of it, the 12700K is a great option.

i haven't found a game yet that i can't totally max out at 120+fps with 3440x1440p using my i7-11700K & RTX 3080 Ti.
so considering that the 12600K & 12700K both blow the 11700K away in gaming you will be in good standing for quite some time with either.

No set budget, mainly looking at i7. i am going to be carrying my DDR4 over from my current PC.

I have the 12700f and its amazing. This might be invalid coming from an i5 4570, but its very powerful. It destroys editing, gaming, discord, and spotify all at once. (32gbs ram) Im considering downgrading just cause I don't like windows 11 and the 5600x and a cheap b550 would save me around $150. (i also want to build another PC)
