Outside access point

My router is at the east end of the house with an access point at the west end. I'd like to add another access point just outside the east end aimed at the barn about 50 yards away. I thought I'd configure a router placed inside of a plastic box on top of the little porch roof outside my window. I could put in a large beer can type reflector to aim the energy towards the barn. Cheap, but will it work?

Unknown. A weatherproof directional outdoor WIFI access point will be much more foolproof. Not that expensive $50 - $70 ...

Have to agree you can get inexpensive outdoor equipment from ubiquiti and engenius. The days of making antenna and putting routers in plastic boxes are long gone. It is just simpler to buy a unit designed to do what you want and just have it work.
