Overclocked Barton's performance

Having in mind all the benchmarks available about the performance of 3200+ (2.2GHz), do you think that a 2.3GHz Barton can compete against a P4 3.0c or am I being too optimistic here? Of course I am not talking about SSE2 optimized apps here.

What do you think?

Well, at 11.5*200MHz=2300MHz, I don't see why a AthlonXP 3400+ on nForce2 chipset will be slower than 3.0C on i865PE chipset...

Nah.. I reckon a bit more oomph might be needed, bearing in mind a P4 2.6C - 2.8C is probably in line with a 3200+..

2.4Ghz Barton would probably be a fair match though.

Well I've had my 2500 at 2446mhz on 204mhz fsb. With my 9700pro at stock speeds, it scores a rather healthy 16,730 3dmarks in 2001se. Comparable to a 3ghz P4. No idea how it compares in other apps though. At 2300mhz it scores about 16,400, about the same as a 2.8 P4.

I'd lower the speed back down to 2300Mhz as you are seriously shortening the life of your cpu for a measly 330 3DMark points. I doubt you'd notice the performance drop. Up to you though...

Dont forget that that P4 you are comparing to is on a clean new os install. I doubt that there are many p4s that can still hit those numbers. I also find that futuremark is not very accurate with the newer fsbs.

Yeah I've left it at 2300mhz on stock voltage. I just wanted to see how far I could take this chip on moderate voltage.
