Overclocked q6600 @ 3.2 confirm setting?

Hey all, I've overclocked my q6600 to 3.2Gb without too much trouble on a gigabyte ep45-dq6 and 2x2Gb 1066 but am unsure on my current ram settings.
cpu-z lists my DRAM Frequency as 445 (x2 =890Mhz actual) and FSB😀RAM ratio as 4:5 with timings of 5,6,6,21. To me this doesnt seem right for 1066Mhz rated ram especially with that ratio. Can anyone guide my on how to correct this? I am new to overclocking and the steps may have to be dumbed down a little for me to fully understand them but any help you guys are willing to give would be great. Thanks in advance 😀

*Edit: vcore is 1.35 and ram voltage is at 1.8V (stock, unsure if I need to raise it up a notch or leave it)

Your RAM has defaulted in BIOS to 400Mhz x 2 (DDR) =800MHz., the JEDEC standard. The OC (increase) of the FSB to get the processor to 3.2GHz has taken the RAM with it to a rate of 445 x 2 890MHz. Ironically in your case, with the RAM set to 800MHz. default speed, this has allowed the CPU to reach from stock 2.4GHz. to 3.2GHz., an 800MHz (nearly 1GHz) OC. If you were to increase the RAM speed to it's rated 533MHz. x 2 = 1066Mhz., the system would likely crash because of the the 'out of specs' RAM speed. 3.2GHz is a good OC on a Q6600. The RAM speed of 890MHz. is fine on a P45. You would not notice much difference with a RAM data tranafer rate any higher than you have there. If instability becomes a problem where the system is currently, add voltage to the RAM. PC28500 1066MHz. RAM requires 2.0-2.1v. If unstable also increase the NB voltage to 1.45-1.5v.

EDit: The Q6600 will run into major heat problems much past 3.2GHz. when run on air. Water cooling would be needed to attain 3.6GHz completely stable. Don't let anyone tell you differently.

I'm not sure what is ment by 'out of specs' please expand?

True. Although to a certain extent, that depends on the CPU chip's VID.


I must disagree here. I was running a Q6600 OC'd to 3.6 GHz at 1.425 volts with a TRUE/S-Flex SFF-21F on a GA-EP35-DS3P in an Antec 900 case. P95 load core temps were 61 - 66 C, P95 small fft's stress test for 24 hours (actually ran about 30 hours).

But it does take a good cooler and a good case.

B3/GO overclocking results/comments at Anandtech.

Our B3 Core 2 Quad Q6600 was able to run at 3.33GHz with a 1480MHz FSB and a 9.0x multiplier at 1.312V, we couldn't get the system stable at anything faster.

Our G0 Q6600, surprisingly enough, couldn't really get much higher. While the same 3.33GHz overclock was possible at a lower voltage, our max was 3.51GHz (390 x 9.0) without resorting to improved cooling. Even at our max, the system wasn't always 100% stable, we suspect that our G0 chip would end up somewhere around 3.4GHz and fully stable in the long run.

In the memory section of the bios you need to select 1066 memory speed or as close to but not over 1066 as you can depending on the divider .
Set the latency timings to 5 5 5 15 up the voltage to the rating of your ram
as for your overclock if your stable at those voltages I wouldn't think about the temps so much as the CPU wont let it overheat to the point of catastrophic failure no mater what you throw at it.
Temps are just a guideline to follow and prime95 or orthos will get you in the range your comfortable with.

And kwalker? I knew something was wrong with the box my Q9550 came in. All I got was a little piece of aluminum with a dinky fan on it. Some people have all the luck.
