I am completely new to the overclocking world, i have been searching online and reading guides everywhere for a month now and i got to this point
I want to start overclocking but when i open the bios screen names in there are different from names in guides and i cannot tell which is which :'(
I tried to follow this guide

My current build is
i5 4690k ,
Gigabyte Z97-D3H,
Noctua D15 HSF,
PSU Seasonic S12 620W 80 Bronze
Zotac 760 AMP >> i am receiving a 1080 TI within a week

I have screen shots for my bios screens and i want someone to point out the fields i need to modify to start overclocking
all your thoughts are welcome

Set your multiplier to 46 and Vcore voltage to 1.26 save and exit.
Run OCCT stress test to see if it's stable. If it's not stable increase voltage by 0.02 till it is. I would try to stay under 1.3 on that board.
Done 4.6 OC.
If its stable you can lower the voltage to 1.24 and run the test again if you wish to try to get lower voltage.
That is not a high end board but the 4.6 should be fine.

I run 4.6 and 1.26 and once i started prime95 i got blue screen,
reset to 4.5 with 1.26 and currently 5 minutes into prime95 test and temp is peaking at 88

should I settle for 4.5 or push voltage and try 4.6 again?

My i5-4690K will do 4.6GHZ, but it isn't 100% stable so I backed down to...

4.5GHz @ 1.27 Volts on a Asus Z97-AR.
I could probably reduce the voltage, but it's been stable for 3 years so why mess with it?

That's a question only you can answer. I mean 88 is HOT. My 4690K brushed elbows with 81 that was during an insane torture test so I could answer a question about a 4690K

Wow, then I see you have a beast of a cooler. I have a little 212 Evo.

I wouldn't push it any more than that.

I am curious what your temps. are with Intel's Burn Test set to Maximum. .

Temps. during a couple hour gaming session?

Run OCCT. Some versions of prime 95 use instruction sets your not going to use.
My 4790K is at 4.6 on 1.22 volts
All chips are a bit different.
88 C at max load is a bit high for me but not to bad.

I tried 4.6 while cranking the voltage up to 1.3 and it crashed
so i am back to 4.5 and i set the voltage to Auto (to save power when idle) or should i find my voltage number corresponding to the 4.5 and keep the voltage manual at that number?

I keep mine at 1.22 that my OC needs run it with CPU-Z open and see what your voltage is going to under load.
4.5 is not a bad OC.

at 4.5 with Voltage set to Auto >>> under stress voltage read is 1.324

should i keep the voltage in Bios on Auto or manual?

but it is getting to that voltage only under the stress test, which will not be the normal condition on day to day
wouldn't it be better if i kept it on auto to consume less voltage on idle / normal operating conditions?

When your gaming that is what your voltage will be to me that is to high for that board.

In my use case, the only benefit I see is when I am rendering a complex 3D model that takes 10 minutes for all 4 cores to draw. Sometimes a complex render will crash my PC (I like to render at gigantic 5000x5000 resolution, then size it down later). So I drop to 4.4GHZ and it usually works fine.

I never did any benchmarks comparing FPS or Firestrike in a gaming test. I assume the difference between stock 3.5 GHz and O/C 4.5 GHz is huge, but I don't think 0.1 GHz up or down makes much of a difference.

Your mileage may vary.

This is the final result using Prime95 as testing method

Clock Speed, Voltage, Peak Temp, Result
4.6, 1.26, N/A, Blue Screen on Prime 95
4.6 1.27, N/A, Blue Screen on Prime 95
4.6 1.28, N/A, Blue Screen on Prime 95
4.6 1.3, N/A, Blue Screen on Prime 95
4.5 1.24, N/A, Blue Screen on Prime 95
4.5 1.25, 85, Worked (Best Option)
4.5 1.26, 88, Worked

Many thanks for the support :) Zerk2012

I have a pretty similar question.
Gygabyte z97 hd3 with i5-4590. After many tries for overclockin. I had to reset everithing to auto.now itook a liquid cooler for cpu and i would like to try to overclock. I set to 37x but it doesn't go.wigo.wiver says i have a 3.3ghz while open harware monitor says that i am working on 3500 mhz on the four cpus. Does anyone knows how to help me?
Ps each cpu clock bus speed reached 3700 mhz
