I am in the process of making a new build with a 5800x and a 3070/3080 depending on what I can get my hands on. I currently have 16gb of Corsair vengeance C16 (2x8gb) at 3200mhz. I've always heard AMD processors thrive off better memory speed, so I would like to run at 3600 if possible. I know it doesn't give a hefty performance boost but I would like to if I can run it stable.

I'm going to be running it on the Asus tuf gaming x570 pro, which is compatible for ram speeds well past 3600, I've just heard its hard to get ram stable past that point. My question is, am I able to overclock my 3200mhz ram I already have or do I need to buy new ram that is advertised to run 3600mhz?

I've also read that you need to change voltages and all that good stuff and trial and error different things but im not computer savvy in that sense so all that kind of confuses me so I guess I'm trying to learn a little more before jumping into it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So can 3600mhz not be achieved with cl16 that I have now, only cl18? Lol im just so confused when it comes to these terms.
maybe it can...that depends on luck, can u run now 3200 cl14? if yes then 3600 cl16 should be possible
Right, I'll probably just stick with 3200mhz. Even the benchmark videos I've seen that show the difference between 3200 and 3600 you get very minimal fps gain. I just figured if its easy enough to overclock why not.
theres like 10% higher minimum framerate when switchin from 3200 to 3600 on ryzen 3000...even if max fps doesnt change by much, 1%low framerate will (less frame jumps/stuttering)
hi, if u overclock ram, u cant use XMP settings
voltage mostly doesnt need to be changed it in ratio with CL, higher CL u use, lower voltage u can go with
so at 3600 u can try CL18 or CL20 at same voltage, if CL20 will be stable while CL18 not, then u might need more voltage (if u need lower latency)
as for other timings, they do mainly relly on CL and RAS so 18-18-18-36 or 20-20-20-40 rest can be auto, mainboard should be able to auto tune it based on main timings

3200Mhz CL16 will net you about the same performance as 3600Mhz CL18, you might be able to tell in benchmarks but for every day use you wont be able to tell.

I would just go into the bios and change my ram frequency to 3600 to test or do I need to change voltages and other stuff as well? Also you can change your ram in bios to cl14, 16 and 18?
