Overclocking Temps - E6600 - What is too high?

I know there are a million temp threads, but Im a newbie doing overclocking for the first time. Heres my system:

Antec P180B (with the new raised MB tray)
Asus P5B-E
E6600 w/ Ultra-120 Extreme
2GB DDR-800 RAM
8800gts 320mb

Right now, I am running at 3.0ghz at 1.3 vcore. My idle CPU temp is 44c. At 100% load it goes to about 55-58c. Isnt this on the high side with a Ultra-120 extreme? Will the temps lower a bit once the AS5 burns in? I just installed it two days ago.

My question is, how high is too high? I want to reach a speed of at least 3.2-3.4ghz. What temps should I stay away from when trying this? Also, whats a typical vcore setting for trying these speeds?

your temps are ok (a bit high), keep it under 60C

get some arctic silver 5 and lap the heat sink, and reseat the ultra make sure its tight

Yeah....i wonder if you're getting good contact with your HS/F as well. I would have expected much better temps using an Ultra-120 Extreme, and you have a decent case also. Don't expect much change from the AS5 after "burn-in".....i've never noticed any differences in the years i've been using it and AS3. What are you using to read your temps.....TAT/CoreTemp .95 ?

... and let us know your CPU, Core 1, and Core 2 temps. You can also verify core temps with Intel Thermal Analysis Tool. CPU temp can be verified with Asus Probe

Make sure your CPU is ~12-15C LESS than your core. If not, enable PECI in the BIOS (under CPU) to get a more accurate reading.

The P5bx boards can and do give erroneous readings. Check your temps before doing anything with your heatsink.

I have the same system as you with these temps;

Speedfan Idle;
Core1 - 31C
Core2 - 32C
CPU - 23C

Prior to setting PECI my CPU showed up as 40C on idle! Obviously wrong since the CPU (case) temp HAS to be lower than the core temps.
